Vixen S2 speedo cable
Discussion
Hi Guys,
took my vixen for a spin on Sat and noticed the speedo had stopped working !!
Had a look at the cable and it seems ok..took the speedo head out and powered it up with a drill, it works too.
The cable seems firm when you try to twist it, so not broken at the bottom end.... I`m thinking the tip of the square end may have sheared off causing the drive to become too short in the head drive..
So, does anyone know what the cable is off ??? or, more importantly, where can I source one ??

Seem to recall getting around this problem many years ago (not on a Vixen so may not work on yours) by pulling the inner cable out a little at the speedo end, there was a nylon collar that stops it going down too far. by pushing that collar down the cable a bit there was enough "square bit" to engage the speedo and still enough t'other end in the drive gear.
Generic picture off Google but it's the off-white bit down inside the outerhousing....

I purchased a speedo cable from the mk2 cortina GT from a stand at Beaulieu last year in the hope that it would fit and you guest it - it didn't. Wrong sized thread on the speedo head. In the end I sent my old knackered cable to speedy cables for them to make me a new one. If your car has the mk2 cortina GT style Smiths speedo (110mph rated) that matches the Cortina and standard Vixen tacho then I have a cable you can have for the price of the postage. My car is fitted with a Smiths 120mph rated speedo that doesn't really match the tacho but I'm pretty sure it's the original gauge supplied with the car.
Incidently, I picked up a few cracking bargains at this years Beaulieu jumble including the correct AC temp gauge for a fiver and a nice flutted toggle switch for a couple of quid. My best buy however was an unused sparto front indicator body, lens and crome ring for three quid! Trouble is you have to sift through a mountain of junk to find the gems!
