Right, seem to have an odd problem here.
Got to the point of getting ready to mount the diff (Salisbury) into the chassis.
The mounting plates, which run from left to right across the top of the diff, and bolt onto the chassis at either side, the holes at the ends for the chassis mounts are bigger than the 1/2" bolt. It's as if there should be a sleeve or something?
The TVR parts manual doesn't show a sleeve, just the 1/2" bolt, and previous threads on here have shown the same thing.
It was all disassembled when we got it, so no clues there for re-assembly.
We've got another set of the mounting plates, from a different source, and these are the same.
What's going on? Is this how they are supposed to be, loose around the bolt?

Hi Thomas, the holes are as is ..there is no bush, PM me (I have my own drawing as the parts listing is incorrect) I will scan a copy to you.

PS There are 2 versions of the H bracket (one with a welded support and one without) yours will need to be modified if it has the support missing (most likely by a welder as this is 1/8 plate welding against 3/8 bar).

Hi Tom ..mail sent, under the larger of the 2 top brackets there should be an upright support an almost square gusset joining both front/aft 3/8 bars, if yours does not have it add it in. The nose of the diff is set by washers between the bracket and the top of the diff...IMHO you will need to release most of the bolts to allow you to fit the stabilisers below as this is a 'tensioned' item.

With regards to fitting the diff carrier to the chassis with the four 1/2" bolts, how should these be aligned within the holes of the diff carrier? Should the carrier be sat down onto the bolts, or centralised as much as possible within the hole of the carrier mounts and the bolts tightened sufficiently so that the carrier is held by the compression of the chassis lugs against the carrier mounts?

IMHO release everything bolt wise, fit everything loose,(get a couple of threads on each nut) then sequentially bolt everything up, them check the front flange for being correct and then undo all diff top bolts BUT add a washer/s (separately) to any pair of bolts on the front or rear set of bolts to set the angle correctly.

Re the gusset send a picture to my phone (as I am in the garage) if you need to. (that is it in your pic) and you need to nothing to the chassis 1/2 inch bolts just lock them tight-tight with 2 spanners (as opposed to a wrench) when you are doing the rest up.

Trial fit the brackets into the chassis without the diff first.
I've only fit my diff with the body off, so don't know if this will apply to you, but I lower the diff in first and let it rest on the lower chassis rails.
Then fit the loose assembled bracket(s) into the top rails, then with a trolly jack, lift the diff up to the bracket.

Body is off, so certainly a lot easier to man handle it in,
(that's me out as I can't even lift the sodding thing off the ground,
