Hi All
Just wondering if anyone has found a suitable strut that would work on the glove box so the door creates a shelf when open.

I've not done this myself but ebay item 170944598636 looks like it might work - and cheap enough to take a punt.

That's the kind of thing that sprung to my mind too, or possibly something like a Mini boot strap but shorter and maybe even better if cord rather than steel cable?
No idea where you'd go to buy such a thing!

You're right Andrew. I think the bit that's missing is the bolt that would slide in the slot and provide the end-stop. Difficulty would be to make the 4" stay disappear inside the glove box when the door is closed though!

I always subscribed to the old adage "don't drink and drive - you might spill some!" biggrin. Might be best to search for cup-holders - there's loads out there and they might not spill so easily as a glove box flaptongue out.

Another source - Triumph Saloons, Stags, Dolomites etc had a neat little stay on them, which screws to the back of the wooden panel - the early Triumph ones were chrome, later ones black...

I think even Spitfires had one too - can't remember for sure.

Yes i have ordered up a Triump TR6 one will let you know if it works will probably need a spacer in the glove box to allow for the fact the inside of the glove box is not straight but worth a try as long as the length of the strut does not exceed the depth of the box

How about a small steel plate discreetly placed behind the black leather /vynil and a small neodym magnet attached within the glove box compartment.

This will look tidy, is easily concealed and will hold shut over whatever bumps you care to bounce!

Hi Stu
Its not the catch but the arm that holds the door when it folds down so its level when open to create a shelf there is not one there normally i just thaught it would be useful.
But nice idea regards the catch that will be on the cards as well as it does fall open sometimes although with the leather trim its fairly snug fit and once an arm is fitted the friction on that may stop that happening and hence not require a clasp.
Hope the Back is on the mend.

For normal road use I would probably go for the factory option TVR 3000S glove box lid stay (road). They come in an infinite number of lengths depening on the incline you are going to where you are going to drink your fizzy drink, any shape you want and of course can be made up in rattle proof material.

However for the more serious rally types there is the L-B-L special model with padded cup holders. As you can see it has adjustable straps so all inclines can be drunk on with a simple adjustment, the main advantage is you can keep your grenades in it when not quaffing at the roadside and they wont rattle about in the glove box. For the team corporate image matching his and his frilly panties can be bought, worn under your white team decorating overalls during the day and over in the evenings for socialising.

Cup holders in a 3000S......... God Forbid, what next

Very fetching Steve I would ask to borrow yours but so far gravity has not taken its tole on my man boobs sorry to hear you have lost the war but bet they look fetching on you. save them for your Europian tour better stop of in Amsterdam on route.
TR6 bracket arrived today really nicley made and enough play on the inner bracket to take into account the curve of the glove box wall.
Permanant cup holder on a 3000s no way but a tempory one for LBL would be useful guess as your Grantura stops for a drink so often you dont need one as you can refil the hump at the same time.
wire cord no thanks I can think of some good uses for it though.
But all suggestions appreciated.

PS careful where you flash your underware we dont want the site shut down.

(Indeed God forbid !!)

btw; you could store some proper grenades in those holders............

Before Steve COMES OUT with further things from his closset (museum)better bring things back on track the TR6 item shown here will do the job well and look correct even if not OE.
when i ordered it i could not see the length however it is perfect for a neat job so will fit tomorrow as fire is blazing glass is full and slippers are on and its cold up there.
Have a good evening Steve and keep your Knickers on
