M Racer Rebuild
Discussion
Some pictures of the "Martin's Mild Moover" 3000M Racer being rebuilt to stand it in good stead for the next few years of track use. I will continue to post new pics as progress allows. No repairs have been required on the 38 year old chassis as its not seen use on anything but a circuit.
New Diff being located with revised and very much lighter carrier. Lower locating brackets to stop the diff nose lifting being laser cut as we speak. These will be a different design to the standard part that seemed to need tightening up after every race. Diff is 3.9 Salisbury LSD, casing is magnesium so again big weight loss.

Mods to front to make section of chassis removable if damaged or for quick radiator and oil cooler removal.

Plate in place to mount pedal box and allow adjustment when complete.

Some further work to provide brackets for rear ARB and a few other tweeks before coating in the next few weeks.

Some good work done so far but a wee way to go. Looking at a late Q2 early Q3 2013 finish.

The aim is to end up with a very capable classic racer that should not look out of place at concours events

No dog seat though...
Happy 2013 to you and the wee one

Looking good John, but you need MrS take the pictures (to avoid the old middle aged man shakes!!!!!)
Nice to see an original racer being restored to be raced.
A magnesium Salisbury and the carrier must be quite a weight saving, I can remember changing one, and struggled without some outside assistance.

Cheers young sir....
The person involved in the build has better shots, but I will get the shake free professional MrsS involved in future.
Looked fine on the I-phone LOL.
Diff and carrier will be 30kgs lighter and then some, wallet weight is lighter by some way too...

Hi Jon,
Looked at a 3.4 conversion with current block etc but the engine we have has been reliable for the last five years.... And the cost to go that route was huge.
So going the re-fresh route with a custom cam. New carbs helped with loosing a flat spot we've had with the old race cam, new cam will help furtherI hope.
Car diet to go sub 900 kilos should transform the old girl.

Did you ever get a price of RW for a GA block/cranked engine??Looked at a 3.4 conversion with current block etc but the engine we have has been reliable for the last five years.... And the cost to go that route was huge.
