However... parked up and rev'd its fine, in gear under load from 3k Revs its starts popping banging and I'm guessing misting... if I manage to reach 4k revs its like hitting a limited, constant pop bang bang bang bang and no speed gains.
So before I go and tinker, what do you reckon?
Recently I've...
Replaced 6v coil for 12v (resistor failed and removed)
Altered timing (admittedly have checked it with a timing light yet just guessed)
Re did the points gap.
I have a colortune 500 and may use that as I did a while ago to visually get an idea ..
Does it seem to describe a common problem?
Many thanks (tired and have the Mrs nagging about being nice) Mick

I had the same problem with mine when I first recommissinoed it, after a few years incarceration. It turned out to be s
t in the tank, causing inefficiency in the pump which was new at the time, so unsuspected. Rectified short term with a carb clean and an in-line filter south of the pump. Long term fix has been alloy t ank.............but they are expensive.

Condenser, check for arcing across the points. Points, condenser, rotor arm and possibly dizzy cap is not a bad idea for a good tune up.
Getting a timing light tonight to borrow (long story but I can't use my dads as the parents have split up after lots of years and my dads took his stuff :-/ )dryden said:

Yes yes and yes for the popping and banging. Plus I'd suggest timing is retarded so it won't rev. What change the timing if you cant check where it is now? Not sure of the engine but start at about 28

I decided last night while bored, and bought an electronic ignition...
Gonna pop and buy a new coil from a car shop later.
When I get to borrow the equipment I'll double check on what I currently have and fit the new bits and reset. then fit all the.
I may be wrong but if fitting an electronic EI than you will need the correct coil that works with electronic ignitionGonna pop and buy a new coil from a car shop later.

Got a friend with a mini and one with a marina who both running the same manufacturer EI Kn standard coils.
Although I have heard people say that standard coils won't won't.
Chris on here with the green Vixen is running EI too with normal coil. His only thing is the rev counter is a bit skewiff.
The EI I've bought is not non ballasted systems, which mine now is.
