Can anyone suggest where I can get a clutch alignment tool, the kind that models the input shaft?

Its a 1" shaft with 23 splines going down to a 16mm wide by 27mm long where it locates in the flywheel bearing.

Tried using a Laser Universal alignment tool, the kind with two opposing plastic cones to centre the fingers on the clutch cover with the fiction plate but it didn't seem accurate enough.

The Haynes manual for the Capri gives the dimensions for a mandrel for this purpose, so will most likley have one made but was hoping someone might know where i can get one of the plastic ones?

Machine Mart do a Clarke universal kit for about £15.00 and Draper tools also do one, if you have a local outlet.

The best way is to get a piece of shaft off an old gearbox, if thats an option.

If you're good (or lucky) it can be done by eye.

Failing that a piece of dowel or rod or whatever the same diameter as hole in spigot and build up with tape so it just slides through the splines, crude but it works wink

I've also used a piece of dowel and a suitable socket to aline various clutches in the past. Worth a try.

I used a 3/8's ratchet handle wrapped in tape.

Works every time.

The proper kit, a cut down first motion shaft (2000E etc.) and a "home made" one (MGB i think)

....and a home made spigot bearing remover while we're sort of on the subject wink

Does anyone know if my problem seeing photos yesterday and today (they're showing up as red X's) is a Pistonheads, thumbsnap, or Internet Explorer problem? Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks,

John

I had the same problem, Its because they were behind a web address that required a pass word for access according to my browser.
