Today I ordered a Trunnionless suspension kit from Canley's. About 15 mins later I got a call from them to say they will not fit a Vixen. I am confused. Has anyone bought and fitted these to a Vixen?

Many thanks in advance
Pete

There must be a simple solution or not. What do the Lotus boys do????

I will have to make some phone calls.

The correct upright for standard stub axle is a drum brake version and Dave at Canley classic does not sell the drum brake upright with the trunnion-less kit...he is a Triumph specialist and has said many times that he could do these as a batch order BUT that someone would have to front the money to do this (as he will not stock them, or create one off's)...
Adrian@
Not trying to be awkward, but WHY ? I know that TR6 trunnions are different (and learned from here that they came in different flavours too) but as far as I know, all the 'small' Triumph trunnions were the same (and 90 degrees), but agree the uprights are different, but only really because the stub axle is a different dia...

Any more info please ? I think I rebuilt my Vixen with Vitesse trunnions for example, and they fitted just fine, no binding or 'forcing' necessary....

OOPS !! stoopid... the replacement upright and trunnionless joint are all in one piece... aren't they ?? Of course....silly me...

But then, all we really need is the right sized 'cone' to change the size of the hole ?? Is that feasible ??

Or of course just buy the upright , matching stub and hub to suit and build from there!!

The whole purpose of switching upright is to move away from the long skinny ended stub axle!!

So Neil just to recap for Pete's and my benefit, what upright, hub and stub combo would you recommend if starting from scratch?

I am not going to recommend anything. There are far to many pitfalls involved if you get it wrong.

But Neil your post suggests that you can buy an upright, hub and stub that is superior to the old herald upright and TR6 stub. Unless you were supplying those parts yourself, why would you be nervous about offering up an opinion? You're not usually so reserved!

Yes you can, but I do not want to recommend anything..
The best recommendation for any std road vixen is to just use new std components of known manufacture...it served the original car well enough for over 40 plus years....
If you want to modify then modify away but do so with your own applied expertise or trial and error.....getting things right often takes a lot of trial and error.

I Agree with Neil on this one my car is going to do the odd round in the Tucan series class c yikes so basically a road legal race car.

The next problem is the Rollcage I have been quoted to fit £1500 including the welding of the extra plates. does this seem fair or not. Safety is not a compromise I have had a few incidents in tha past so I know.

All that Dave would do is supply the guy who machines the uprights with the correct 'TVR' version of the upright ...BUT, he needs to this in batches to keep the cost down, with the very few requests for the TVR version of the kit they would be sitting on his shelf gathering dust.

Hi Adrian

What is the minimum order. Maybe we could get a group buy.
