I just wondered if any of the gang here had any thoughts on engine oil spec for the crossflow engine. From a brief search on the net it seems that views are split between sticking with the original spec thicker oils (20w40) to those that advocate a modern synthetic oil 10w40 or similar. What are you guys using?

For a road car.

Valvoline R mineral 20/50 and change oil at max 3000 miles or 6mth.

.....awaits petroleum chemists who will now specify much better oils in semi and fully synthetic.

For a road car I'd go with Millers Classic semi synthetic

I use Motul 300V competition in most of my race engines

If you're using it purely on the road then a half decent 20/50 changed regularly depending on use, if racing then Valvoline VR1 20/50 or their semi synthetic.

Hi Niel
I am planning on Changing the oil on the Vixen next week and although it will be road use for the moment the engine is built as a 1700 and various upgrades with the previous owners plans of some competition use would you still suggest this i use millers classic on the 3000s which i change every year or 5000m whichever comes first.
