ford essex v6 engine help needed
Discussion
I have been looking for a bellhousing to fit the 3.0 v6 essex engine to a type 9 gearbox anyway found one on ebay today and purchased it, it came as an engine and gearbox complete. The guy told me he took it out of a ford Sierra 3.0 v6 lx that was imported from Australia the car was a 1993. The engine is definatley an essex but with a difference for starters it has a pierburg neuss carb bosche electronic ignition and the rockers are quite different.
I cant seem to find out much on the net about it so anything you guys know would be a great help.

As far as I know...
The only Essex V6 powered Sierras came from South Africa, and were called XR6.
There was also an XR8 Sierra (V8, 302 Windsor) made in SA.
Sierras were never made in Oz, but there were European imports to both Oz and NZ, and I would guess it's a personal import ? NZ rules are reasonably easy if you are emigrating.
Those rockers look quite like the Cologne ones, with the horrid 'stiff bolts' setup...
Perhaps they have the same offset ??

Rocker Covers are South african spec., I have no experience with south african motor but the Pierburb carb looks similar to the Pierburb Solex carbs as fitted to colonic engines...The only Essex V6 powered Sierras came from South Africa, and were called XR6.

Maybe the south african engine is a mish mash off all bits being later in production..
I would also carry out a compression test..There were a lot of low comp marine and commercial engines built for the african market.
If it came out of a sierra though then It may well be an XR6 spec engine

Sorry for butting in - not a TVR bod, but a Scimitar-weirdo!
That is a rare beast. A mate of mine is retro-fitting that injection system to the Essex in one of his Scimitars.
If ever you need any Essex advice, check out some of the Scimitar forums - they are a real mine of information.

In case it helps explain, there are some CFI (Centralised Fuel Injection) systems which look very like a carb. Such systems for a V6 would typically have one large injector per bank...
perhaps that's the confusion ?
I thought the 2.8 had a Solex carb originally ? (not sure) I know there was a 38DGAS replacement available, with same jet sizes as the Essex 3.0 .
