2500M Alignment Advice?

I've finally been able to put a few miles on my '77 M and have commented the steering feels bad. Today, I noticed it doesn't try to return to center at all. Is this normal or might the car be badly out of alignment, or something else to check?

I will probably take it to a local alignment shop, but is there anything I should know about setting the alignment in this car?

BUT surely your supplier of your alloy rack mounts advised you that if you do tighten the rack too much that you will have no self return and that it is possible to lock the alloy rack mounts down so tight that you damage the rack tube and write off your steering rack.

Thank you, Adrian. I will check that!

BTW, Richard Good did mention the risks of overtightening, but it was difficult to tell doing it the first time.
