5-speed type 9 gear box
Discussion
Some info in this article - www.scimitarweb.co.uk/scimiwiki/images/8/84/Type_9...
Basically I think you need a type 9 from a V6.

Burton also a Type 9 with a long 1st - http://www.burtonpower.com/catalogsearch/result/?q... I only found this online because it was in last years paper catalogue!
To keep 1st the same as the standard 4 speed you'd want 3.08 so that's not far out.
But I'm just an internet expert as mine's still running the 4 speed - be good to get an proper expert view!
Gary
if you are going to all the trouble of getting a cooking type 9 and re-ratio'ing it then why not just fit a T5 and be done?
You have to modify the end of the 1st motion shaft on the type 9 I think so you might as well get the box more able to deal with the power more reliably that you don't have to chop bits off??

Evening guys,
Your combined answers, made me think and read a bit, the T5, in close ratio form is 1st-2.527, 5th-0.87, or compared 2.905, which is comfortably close to the 3.04 of the 4-speed.
@neil; in effect i wasn't trying to re-rationing, simply wanted to know what to buy best, from experiences of the forum
If I go for the BWT5, I will need a new bellhousing, some trimmings (speedo cable, mount, some gaskets/bolts) is there anything else to be sourced, or changed on the box ?
Whilst at it, is there any changes to the prop-shaft ? and what about the gear-lever ?
If I'm missing anything, please let me know !
many thanks (and highly appreciated )!
