Got the M in for an MOT tomorrow, checked everything over today and the reverse lights failed. checked all connections, bulbs, etc. Jacked the car up and the switch has been torn away, the actually switch itself is in perfect order but the housing from the gear end is at best, destroyed. Any idea what this part is from or what it can be replaced with?

Doesn't matter for the MOT as reverse light isn't part of the test.

Is it the standard four speed box?
Isn't the housing part of the gearbox tail?
Pics might help your description.

I believe the switches are getting quite rare.

Making a crunching sound out of the side of your mouth and flicking on a toggle switch is a legal MOT pass for reversing lights.

As long as it's got a warning light if it's manually switched apparently. But it still wouldn't be checked by MOT man. VOSA would check it if they decided to stop you IIRC.

Damn it! I had the full back end apart interior and all checking bulbs and various multimeter readings, a good 3 hours of panic before I decided to check the switch.

Its the standard 4 speed box and the part that is fastened to the housing. The actual switch mechanism itself has came off cleanly and I can activate the lights by pressing on this switch.

However this is good news as I was going to cancel MOT in morning, just need to find myself a 2 pin flasher relay for the hazards and I am ready to rock n roll! cool

If the "Usual suspects" are unable to find one for you then you could try Graham Walker who do Scimitar parts but suggest Adrian or sTeVeR as first choice as they are most likely to know which Ford 'box you have.

Hmmm neither look like the one fitted. The current mangled one has a long collar with the connection recessed inside, to which the switch mechanism slides in to become fully enveloped by the collar. I have no chance of taking a photo now as it passed its MOT bounce and I tucked it away and proceeded to see what I could break then try and fix on the chim, it went well in that respect. rolleyes

Anyway, winter jobby for the reverse lights, I need to get hold of a set of LUCAS L891 rear clusters priority numero uno!

Thanks for the advice about the lights not being part of the MOT saved a lot of panic and me cancelling clap
