if I had 15k (which I don't) I would have bought that Taimar Turbo from ebay, listing has ended but don't know if it sold.......very nice looking car.

A turbo SO original and lovingly looked after (as in gently pottered about all it's life) that it is almost dangerous to put on the road, no doubt the factory (issued at a time when you COULD buy 5 star petrol) blurb on timing advance and fuel-ing went with the car for the new owner to take on board, read, digest and follow, to the letter!! and most likely destroy a piston or two, such a lovely car.

Hi Adrian, would I be correct in saying the following

3 TVR Taimar Turbo SE Widebodies

2 TVR 3000M Turbo SE Widebodies

1 TVR 3000S Turbo SE Widebody

Those original 6 were all built at the TVR factory and is it correct that you converted a 3000M to SE specification, if so that takes the total up to 7.

I've just found this on carandclassic.co.uk

Converted to SE spec at the factory in 1984, the price of this one should make your eyes water. I haven't a clue what the "going rate" is for an SE spec car, but is this one a wee bit over priced.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C421887#

1979 3000S converted to SE spec in 1984 at the factory, LHD, car located in Germany.

Cheers,

OE Turbo's are the 3 Taimars, (Burgundy, Black, multi coloured all fitted with Air cond), the first being the development car to show as the SE from a normal turbo (Silver), (there a story there) and the 3000s (Red)...the 2 M's are retro fit factory conversions with cars returned by David Field (then torquise now midnight blue) and Peter Hancock (then gunmetal grey now Ferrari red).
Then a midnight blue 3000s for Dennis Angelino (not sure if that name is correct OR if it was a turbo BUT my understanding it was LHD and it is well documented in the TVRCC mag but I buggered if I am going to look), 2 non turbos Gold SE, blue SE.
THEN a completely new Taimar in Dark Blue with Beige band (so late that if you see it looks like a Tasmin interior) AND RE body the Black Taimar turbo car (again Tasmin looking) AND a 3000s turbo (dark Blue) with SE kit both after accident damage.
Adrian@

I'm good, but if anyone has one and can but the car at the factory at the right time I am happy to stand corrected.

PS FM 4697 (the silver) car was the only car NEVER listed on MY turbo list (which runs as a list against the Robson book WITH the addition of the White M turbo owned by PW), so I had NO history of it until this year, but then the advert shows it as being RHD, so I have no knowledge of it being done at the factory in 84.

I own up to creating an SE arched Taimar turbo (origanlly the last Taimar turbo in Black) AND converting to full TVR Turbo spec 2 3000s's (one standard car black) one dark Blue with SE arches (stolen and never recovered, BUT I would know it IF it appeared!!!
AND have sold 10 ish kits of arches over the years (I have not been counting).

Adrian's standard black conversion is still going strong ( I shouldn't say that, the MOT is tomorow!), and I intend to keep it forever. Is the silver one above 4697FM then, I have that down as being dark blue and RHD? £40k looks well over the top, can it really be twice as good as the one sold at HHC recently? Did the red Taimar turbo on ebay sell recently, and does anyone know where it went?

Oliver.

Hi Oliver
yes the price is high but against Green Turbo which is Now Bernies Car and great to see it at the pre 80s that one is a fresh restoration as that is an older restoration but a fantastic car and a proven track record add the fact that it is LHD which adds a premium of about 25% or so some say and she has been built to SE spec then about £30k to £33K i would have thought was right so the seller has left himself a 25% wriggle room on price my only reservation is it has not had much of a shake down so you could have some teething problems.
In fainess buy the one for restoration on the club site at £3k plus and give to a restorer such as David Gerald and you will have a bill of 40k and to that standard maybe more.
I know that there are great cars that some have built recently like Neils and Johns and rightly they dont like to talk about what they have spent or what they are worth however on the open market they must have a high value but to them they are priceless as they have put there hearts and souls into them over many years.
The Market will decide what it is worth but looks a fantastic car.

Fingers crossed for the MOT..yes to 4697FM it is now silver and LHD, the answer IMHO is that NO to the car being worth twice as much as the car sold at HHC (and given that 5 people WITH the money have asked the same question recently over originality of the car) I guess that originality and provenance is very important in purchasing a TVR turbo. The red car will re-appear, hopefully before it gets broken and tainted with the poor unreliable turbo brush.

Thanks for the info, MOT didn't go too well so a few jobs to do over the winter. Serves me right for ignoring it for the last year or so to concentrate on petty things like family, work and the house move.
Regarding the silver one, I've never seen a turbo with the tail pipes so far apart, it would be interesting to see the exhaust system.

Oh well Oliver, get on with it.
As for the silver car, the exhaust is most likely the same as the rest of the car IF you look at it carefully, IMHO a shame.
