Fitting TR3 6in Wires
Discussion
Just wondered has anyone fitted TR3 6in wires on there Vixen or Tuscan and what tyres to allow clearance without altering the wheel arches
It was suggested using 215/70 tyres on the 15 in 6in wires just wondered if anyone has found this has worked and any particular offset required.

Hello,
Depends on centre laced or "normal" laced wheels of course.
I will follow this discussion because I have to make my mind up in wheels and tyres for my Vixen.

Yes i hope there is someone on here that can help ideally having fitted 6in wires and what tyres they have used what length converters DG thinks 98.5mm but not sure yes the wire settings will be important which will create the correct offset etc
Ideally if someone can come on and give all the details and sizes that they used and worked that would be fantastic.
Failing that once the rest of the work is done over the winter i will just take the car to MWS and they can measure it up they have the sizes on file for the Garntura and Vixen and they list 4.5inch and a 5 inch wire wheel option however they have no records at all for Vixen V6 or V8 and The V8 car had 6inch wires on the SE cars so there has to be an option that fits
With The Fins being 5.5 inch there should not be a problem.

Well a little closer to solving my own question
This is an original V8 Tuscan which I was looking at today for reference she had Mini Light Knock on 6in wheels we think from new as there is a picture of the Chassis on a trade stand in the 60s with them on the car.
So will use these for reference and once done can let you know how it works just need to decide what tyres to fit as I don't want to lower her any as the 302 sump is low enough as it is.

Good afternoon,
That adapter is standard for all TR owners (and many others) also for me having a Triumph TR250.
So I can give you all the dimensions you want.
We use a filler plate of 5 to 10 mm to prefent the wheelbolts rubbing the inside of the wirewheel center.
I have Vredenstein classic tyres, 185-70-15.
Which dimensions do you need?

Very Kind offer I think I will just take these up to the TR centre in London and let them sort it out and get them the same offset as these will do that next week when I am back up there for a meeting.
what I wonder is can I put 205/60/15 tyres on and have enough space to prevent the tyre rubbing when cornering fast as I don't fancy a sudden blow out I believe some out there are using that tyre size on Vixens but not sure speak up please if anyone has them fitted.

I think i am getting there
The Wheels off the V8 SE Tuscan in the earlier picture are actually 5.5inch knock on mini lights however using them as a guide the back space from the back of the wheel adapter to the edge of the wheel is 70mm however tightened up that might go to 72mm.
As the clearance at the rear is the most important i got MWS to measure there various wire wheels with a TR3 RSTRL wheel adapter on and the XW5726 6inch wheel gives 72mm back space as some i believe have fitted 7inch with careful spacing it looks like these 6inch will work nice and are centre spoke which i prefer.
These are listed on MWS as Cobra 6inch fitting.
The Tyre choice is the next decision i have a loan of a wheel with a 205/60/15 wire wheel that i will try on her at the weekend however to avoid reducing ground clearance as the sump on the 302 is rather low i am thinking of 205/70/15s however without spending a fortune the best tyre in that size is the Maxis tyre at £84.90 fitted however that is only a H rated tyre and although i have no plans of taking her beyond the speed of a H rated tyre i do wonder should i fit a V rated however in the size they are crazy price.
I have the Maxis on my Merc and am really happy with them the pattern though on the Tuscan ones are a more traditional thread which will look more period.
I will keep you posted once i get them fitted later in the year spray booth first for some colours to be added.

Currently got Maxxis on my van, only comment is very noisy but decent wear and grip, Geoff
Thanks grip is more important than wear and noise well with the V8 i dont think it will be an issue LOLThe ones on the merc are very good but a far different thread pattern will jut look around.
