The RHS equivalent bracket holds the swirlpot, but what is the LHS one for?

That lower one?

I thought the same thing.

Ours has a dip in the middle rather than two sort of steps.

By the looks of tit the chassis has been modified quite a bit or it was originally used for a different engine?

In combination with your other question regarding the rad; this looks like a very late chassis, to take a high radiator, not the low front mounted (I can see a plate on top of the front crossmember which takes the heater fan). The bracket on either side in the above pic take the radiator, and think that strange angled (never seen that !) crossmember allows for a straight (bar one bend) bottom hose. On mine (also with a high rad) the bottom hose goes round a chassis upright and then only joins the pump.

If your referring to the cross member under the crankshaft pulley it was modified by the previous owner to accommodate an AJP8 engine, I have being putting everything back to as near standard as possible.
