Evening all,

Does any body know of any 3000s or taimars for sale that are running, drivable but could be considered a bit of a winter project?

Cheers

You might find a Taimar but a 3000s I really don't think so there is the total restoration project on the club site but that's a major rebuild.
Good luck and keep us posted

Did you mean meant 3000M ('s' as in plural?). If so the white and brown project on car and classic is no longer for sale as i snapped it up twp weeks ago. Am hoping got a good 'un its still in local garage getting jobs done for mot as not driven for 20 yrs or so ...hopefully can soon be a rolling project. However the red and black banded taimar up in Wakefield currently on Pistonheads and the tvr official site is very impressive and imo most certainly does not need a respray despite what owner (who is a very nice bloke) feels. I almost bought as its got an unmarked ten yr old chassis and new suspension ....but not crazy about red !

But guess not great if you want a project-priced car admittedly !

I whent and had a look at this, and to be fair to the gentleman selling it he was very clear that it is a project. It's certainly a body off chassis sort, suspension and break rebuild, interior sort and then on to the engine box and electrics. Bit too much for me at this point. I was hoping to get something usable, then look at a tidy up this winter,(got to Finnish the other toys aswell) then maybe a full rebuild next year.

Ah so you want a "project" not a "project" ;-)

I guess then if you want a runner, its likely to have an MOT and be in use or you'll find one that's been off the road a length of time like the one you saw

Guess it comes down to how much you want to spend and how much work do you want to do......I like that red one up at 7.5k, but you said red's not your colour

You really want a white one.....they are the really sought after ones

Think you are getting fullthrottlehyde and my stories mixed up here...it was me who went to see red taimar not our friend looking for a project. Which one does take a risk on given usual arguments about restoration costs v a finished article whatever the colour. I might even have the white/ brown " investment" resprayed green...depends on the abilities of t- cut & white polish once the m.o. t essentials are sorted!

Yes I think that sums it up, I think something with an MOT or something that needs a small amour of initial work to get it back on the road. Would I miles out thinking I could get something usable for 4 to 5 k?

For 4 -5k in current market you can either buy a good project or an incomplete tarted up project masquerading as a useable car but won't be really!!
If you want a very good basis for a car then Steve Reid has a Tax free early 3000M for sale at £4k which is by far the most desireable M to buy.

It won't be around for long at that price..
it does however want a proper restoration.

Thanks heighswitch that's the red car we discussed earlier, it needs a full restoration, I had a look and while it will be a very pretty car one day, its far from anywhere near using in the short term. In all honesty at 4k it probably needs 3k (the car hasnt been used for a long old time and the chasis could be shot) of work and at that price I could buy the 7to 7500 taimar on car and classic.

Maybe my price is a little unrealistic

More like 10k but as Neil says the most desirable M to buy and worth the effort.
Cheap project cars with MOTs really don't exist if done right anyone can make a project car scrape through an MOT but a proper job that's a different story.
Raise your Budget somewhat.

You have to look at what YOU want.

That car with a body off chassis re-furb and leaving the body as is will knock any 7k M into the weeds. The beauty of this car is its originality and for the UK market its Tax free status. Its the best looking of all the M's made. As with everything TVR, there are excellent restored cars and cars to be made into excellent restored. The cars in the middle are exactly that...in the middle.
Personally amazed it hasn't sold. very nearly bought it myself to put away for a rainy day but the boss unfortunately is wise to my bank statements and hiding places. plus I have a third Griffy to commence with including piecing a shell together.

Load of ballcocks. You'll never get sunburned in a fixed-head M.

No doubt a lovely looking car, without the occupants anyway!

I prefer to think of it as weight saving and streamlining.
