Hi folks

With my new shiny 15" Wolfrace wheels arriving today I need to solution a spare wheel

The advice I got was to get a Volvo V/S40 wheel...........as its 15" and the same PCD.

My question is can I use the Volvo "space saver" or will I need the full size steel wheel?

PS - if anyone has one they don't want, beer tokens on offer smile

Glen, the Volvo space saver fits as is...you need the correct taper nuts and a few washers/spacers to mount it on the studs under the bonnet.

You can, with the space saver in place, 'lower' the bonnet a bit. This gives you better horizontal shut-lines of the bonnet behind the wheels and it looks better (IMO.......)

I would be inclined to always use the space saver on the front not the rear as the rolling radius may be a bit different to whatever tyres you have fitted and save your diff or at least thats what i was advised when i carried one

save your diff
Save it from what? confused

On anything other than a dead straight road it's "working" anyway.

I'd rather have two proper wheels/tyres on the front which does all the steering and most of the braking scratchchin

Yes I would as well
However
One diff powering two wheels one going one distance one each turn one going another distance on each turn then you are putting loads on the differential that it was not intended from what I can make out I quess it may depend on if its a standard diff or a LSD.
Just a thought but worth asking someone who really knows before doing so.

But in effect isn't that exactly what the diff does when you corner, lets one wheel turn faster than the other? A few cogs whirring away in a nice bath of oil, what harm can that do?

Diff's are generally tough old things, they go on for thousands of miles stuck away at the back usually forgotten about and un-loved, so I wouldn't think driving a few steady miles with different wheels is going to really bother one at all?

Thinking about it, depending what side spacesaver is fitted and whether on a long left or right sweep it could "balance things out" wink

Well I can only go by what someone said a few years ago when I was carrying a space saver however it may have been the same person that suggested some tartan paint and a glass hammer hehe

I know you see people (mere mortals...in little hatchbacks driving around on these for days)
BUT, this is in effect, a get you to the next garage/tyre fitter in an EMERGENCY!!! a get out of jail free card for you when you have the bad luck to get a puncture, you don't pass go!! you can't wear one out!! it is NEVER going to be on the car for any length of time to get worn out.
I have to agree with Mike.....I would want the thing on the back so that my ABS worked properly.
