Hello there,
I need 2 vertical links, mine are terrible corroded and thread is worthless.

Whether via Adrian or off the shelf (?), depending on best price and/or quality .
I am not in a hurry because the painter is first and then the interior and then ......
Please let me hear.

Hi Adrian

I have a much modified '71 TVR 2500 (ex Mike Zappa, with a Ford 302 V8 etc) which is undergoing a major restoration.

I'd be very interested in the kit, as I've been trying to find out if the Canley Classics version would work, but I believe that there are some compatibility issues...?

If you can do a kit that is a known 'bolt-in', then I'd be a very happy customer. Photo of progress below - lots done but lots more to do!

Steve...It was in first build when it was crashed...there is not a corner that is not damaged that is worth taking a picture of!!

Adrian. That partly what makes it interesting to see. Can't wait to see what you do to it - it'll be a great development project for us other Vixen owners as you're already giving us food for thought with this first post on the car. Keep it coming!

OK, I know I am about to ask a really stupid question - but I'm going to ask it anyway.....

I'd always believed that Lotus Elans also used the Triumph uprights / vertical links, is this so? And, if this is true, what have they done to circumnavigate this issue?

I suspect this is a red herring but I ask just on the off chance......

At the end of the day..Whats wrong with trunnions??

All the suspension failures I have ever seen on TVR's and in reality it isn't many have been down to poor maintenance.
When I have seen a snapped upright it has been at the top of the threads..

I assume this is because of wear between trunnion thread and upright inducing play due to lack of maintenance

It appears to me that if the canley trunnionless kit is similarly non maintained it will also prematurely wear. but I do admit..Without failure of the upright.

To be honest I don't see the point of this mod on Std cars, Cars running big fat tyres etc then yes, Racing cars to cure pad knock back (which is caused by the stub flexing and needs a different mod) then yes.

Adrian has also alluded to some issues with the mounting arrangements of the bottom carrier on a std vixen type wishbone which also needs to be addressed on cars which do not use the triumph lower wishbone.

As ever and why I have not posted a list of compatible parts....It isn't a straight forward modification to do. Its not difficult but does require a bit of thought and engineering knowledge.

Std type uprated parts are available as an alternative.

I am sure Adrian will come through for those who want an off the shelf kit now that he has seen the issues.

For the record. My cars all have trunnions.

N.

Well, l did say it was a stupid question....
I run std triumph V/L's and have no intention of changing, l fill then with EP90 every so often and they seem to work fine.
However l have had one fail on an old Spitfire in the early 80's and l oiled that regularly too.

The race car uses solid links with no drilling.. This eliminates the possible issues with fracture but..needs regular stripping, oiling , greasing and maintenance..Not a problem on a race car but a chore on a road car for some owners.

Driver's side actually. At about 60mph as well (I think they usually go at parking speed with plenty of lock - unless you hit something). There was a clunk and then a grinding sound. I came to a halt at the side of the road in a straight line - the whole thing lacked drama considering...

I replaced the link, trunnion, etc. and was back on the road within a week - and most of that time was getting the parts!

Are M series trunnions any stronger and can these be fitted perhaps with M series wishbones? Also do trunnions always show signs of wear / play before they fail?
