Thought I would start my latest project thread going, so here goes smile

Well, most of you will be aware of the Peter Wheeler 5000M car built by Brian and Jonathan up in Blackpool, you may also be away that Voodoo13 on here commissioned a Number 2 evocation back at the end of 2009, see old thread here = http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

The story continues, the owner moved to the US, the car was never finished and sat gathering dust, it changed hands and had pieces of the original build sold off, that is until now

So going against all the advice I received (I was never good at listening) I bought the project, but what am I going to do with my 7th TVR I hear you all cry?

Well, what I have is not very much lol: -

- Bespoke Chassis built by Lawfield Engineering (chassis has a V5 / ID - registered in 1973 so is tax free, bonus!)
- Widened M style body per the PW 5000M made by Space Composites
- Aluminium Honeycomb Floor
- Part machined bespoke rear uprights
- Aluminium bulk head / foot wells
- Stainless Steel Exhaust Manifold, Cross over system and side exit pipes made by Maniflow to suit a Ford 302 V8

And thats it! Not really a total car but a reasonable starting point, at least its not rusty lol

So whats the plan, the good news is there should be no TVR originality police to annoy given this is pretty much a unique vehicle, but I will be using the original PW 5000M as inspiration for my build, so the engine I plan to use a Ford 302 V8 with 320+ BHP, T5 or TKO600 gearbox, it will be green, it will have 18" Compomotive MO6s and it will be road legal but balanced to be a useful track weapon as well, its not going to just be a race car.

Given this is a bespoke car getting parts will be my biggest challenge but there is a lot of knowledge out there and previous owners / builders and drivers of the original PW car have all been fantastic in providing support / guidance and a helping hand.

Fingers crossed there will be stock items that I may-be able to use from the TVR parts bin to keep costs in check and minimise the bespoke manufacturing of any parts / items so watch this space as I will be seeking out parts from you all that may be gathering dust in your garages that could be used on this project, items like: -
- BTR diff
- Sagaris Drive shafts
- Tamora / T350 etc type Front and rear uprights / calipers / discs / hubs
- Ford 302 / TKO Gearbox or T5
- The jury is out on the wishbones and steering rack etc but will be booking to see Brain on that one + some other bits I know he has gathering dust smile

She gets delivered at my place in 2 weeks so for now, I will share some pics and keep everyone updated as / when progress is made on the first job, get her rolling! (Brian you are already set on speed dial)

My deadline to complete is 14 months, so it will be a 40th birthday present to myself, always good to have a line in the sand hey smile

G

and lastly.......here is what I am aiming for smile (NB - last request - if you have any photo's at all of the original green 5000M can you email then to me.......I am especially interesting on interior shots, suspension, engine etc etc

Good to hear its ended up in good hands, will be a very interesting project, hope you keep us all updated as it goes along. What made you decide on a 302?

it what was used in the original 5000M PW car and I also have the bespoke manifolds which would cost me a fortune if I wanted to change the engine and therefore change the exhaust system so just made sense to stick with the original plan

it was originally on a Tuscan chassis......if you look at the old PH thread you can see the shell, like a normal M has a fiberglass floor etc........but my conversations have unearthed it was not really suitable so Lawfield built a bespoke new chassis......you can see in the pics all the wishbone pick ups are not even close to a challenge chassis

Will be a fun packed build that's for sure lol smile

Glen,

CONGRATULATIONS!

Best of luck, with your build. I hope it goes rapidly.

One question I have for you, is why you are interested in an engine with such modest power output. If it's related to setting a budget, it makes complete sense.

Best,
B.

The engine that I had built for the car was based on a NASCAR engine, 475bhp/400+ftlbs torque, cost a lot of $$$$$$$.
You can see the engine on youtube (Ford 302 Race Engine Built By Proformance Unlimited.com)

Hi Brian,

It's certainly sweet sounding. What part of it was based on a NASCAR engine?

By the way, are you aware that those produced roughly 850HP, at about 9,000RPM, and were of the 358 persuasion?

From what the engine builder was saying, yours was a 302. 475HP, from a 302 is rather impressive, especially when considering, that he said it should last you several years.

Best,
B.

Well that's certainly a challenging project. It would make things a lot easier if you managed to locate the missing parts , drive train can be sorted easily but the suspenshion , floor , bulkhead etc would be a real find so hope there in some ones garage?? All the best with it. Richard

I've got the honeycomb floor and the aluminum bulkheads so its just the suspension and I know Brian / JRG have their grey matter noodling about this.....fingers crossed on that bit

Once that is sorted its a "kit car" concept and screw parts together.....sounds so easy hey lol

I've always wanted to build my own car vs restore a car.....this is more of a clean build.
