I can't remember where I read it but I believe that Vixens with the 2500 engine were never officially called Vixens but 2500s and those with the 1300 engine were called 1300s - which is fair enough.

But some time ago I saw this...

...and this

This got me thinking that perhaps they are called Vixens after all. The adverts could be incorrect of course.

More recently I saw this

There can't be any mistake here.

Perhaps these plates were only fitted to US cars and perhaps they were called Vixens in the US. Does anyone know?

The handbook for my 2500 doesn't shed any light on the matter by the way. It just says 'TVR' on the front.

Come to think of it, how do you define a Vixen? It can't just be those cars with the 1600 engine as some S1s had the 1800 (and a 250 V8!). It can't just be cars that had a chassis number containing 'VX' because some Tuscans had this and some later Vixens didn't.

Any ideas ?
