3000M problems...
Discussion
I have a 1976 3000M with some problems, ...solutions are welcome.
1. Gearshifter bucks a lot when i go on/ off the accelerator , to me it looks like the diff rubbers are very soft, especially the 2 big round ones in the back of the diff. Are there polyurethan replacements and would that help?
2. Got some up and down play at the end of the steering rack. Is there an easy fix or do I need a new rack?
3. Got a seized brake calliper front left, anybody knows the make or where to get a rebuilt one, or does wilwood have some that are better and an easy swap?
4. Front windscreen has foggy patches on the edges because its old and delaminating, do i need to buy a new one? And where?
After reading quite a bit here about tvr's I think I know who will provide some answers....I live in Antwerp belgium otherwise it would be easy to drive up to Mr. Adrian and get all the parts and answers i would need.
Thanx ,
Oscar

Hey
1) I think perhaps you should be looking at the rear of the gear box at the mount, not the diff.
2) I don't know.
3) 16pb calipers I think
4) contact adrian@ or uroglas
Thanks whitewolf, i will check those too, at first glance they all look in pretty good shape, and what are 16pb calipers?1) I think perhaps you should be looking at the rear of the gear box at the mount, not the diff.

Hi Oscar,
As you know I am local to you.......
1/ As stated probably the gearbox bush, as far as I know you've got a 3000M, with 4-speed box and salisbury ? As it happens I've got a newish g/b-bush available (as I changed for a 5-speed) which is for sale.......(call/mail me)
2/ play in the steering rack or the steering column ? If steering reck you would need new mounts (go for alloys, will mail you the partn° if so required, its Triumph 2000, if i'm not mistaken)or track-rod ends (same comment)
if steering column, probably bushes worn, again mail for part n°, these are Spitfire parts)
3/ front brake calipers are TR6, 16PB, again i've got the part n° (i'll even show you how to overhaul them, if you like........)
4/ don't know, but if you find one, good luck on the installing..............(i've never done this, and I don't intend to do so)
grtz
Frank

Hey Frank, thats nice, i will check the gearboxrubbers again and ket you know, play is inthe rack, and only on teh ends of the rack in a vertical plane, so up and down, i think it could be bushes there. For the brake caliper i will take it apart and let you know too. Seems that there are some front windows in holland available, but wouldn't it be nice to take a trip to the guru in england and have some extra things checked out...
Talk to you later, thanx, oscar
