My Ford 4-speed and overdrive gearbox is taking the fun out of driving my Daimler V8 powered Vixen S1 so I am looking at sourcing a 5-speed box. Are there limitations to which box would fit in the Vixen Frame?

The current favourite is the T5 out of either a modern TVR or from a Sierra/Sapphire Cosworth.
I have also looked at the LT77/R380
I know you can get the Toyota conversions from down under, but the boxes are rare here in Norway.
Type9 would be a little on the weak side.

Whatever you fit there will need to be some changes done on the fitting however if you look at the pictures of what Alan did on my S2 that may give you some ideas
Type 9 there is a Heavy duty version made by the company that did our Taimar one however speak to Adrian Venn as he will guide you I am sure

I'd have thought the type 9 more than capable, unless your Daimler is modified?

Used in the Ford 2.9i V6 engined S Series cars (175BHP) with no problems.

Plenty of different options for the Dart out there using Toyota, Lt77 or Ford gearboxes mated to an adapter plate onto a Daimler automatic bellhousing. If they fit between the chassis rails or not im not sure

You could allso go for the various getrag versions, even only a few (version 265) have seperate bell housing. But you can make an adaptor plate to convert the engine ane bell house flanges. Be aware that many getrags have a 1:1 5'th and a low ratio diff.

Another consideration is that many moders box'es have a wide ratio split (1'th / 5'th ratio) ex. the S type getrag I'm using goes from 4.23 in 1'th to 1.00 in 5'th equal a total ratio split of 4.23, this will give you a silly low 1'th if 5'th match you crusing speed, or if you make 1'th resonable for a light sports car, you will get a silly high 5'th gear.

In light sports cars a close ratio box is preferable, and the Tremec T5 is a very good option as they are made in 800 various configurations, and you can change the ratios of the individual gears.
In the version used in the newer tvrs do they run with these ratios:
1'th - 2.95
2'th - 1.95
3'th - 1.34
4'th - 1.00
5.th - 0.80
Giving a total ration split of 2.95/0.8 = 3.69 which is way better that the 4.23 I'm running.

And the 2.95 to 0.8 ratios are quite normal in the newer mustangs, so look for one of those (the TVR version is $$$ compared to one from a mustang.) and the bell house is removable s oyou can remake it to fit your daimlet version.
Anoter advantage of the Tremec, is that it have many different options for the gear lever position, so you can get that forward on the box.
