I made him an offer for this 2 weeks ago, he hasnt come back to me, so I assume it wasnt enough. Judging by the price of the black S4 he has and the fact that that car has been for sale for ever, I gjess he isn't in any hurry.....
make him an offer he can't refuse, if you don't you will regret and it could be another to cross the channel to France

After some time looking around and a trip to Spain last week to see the red one for sale, I've taken your advice.... I'll be rebuilding it as a hill climb car, not sure how quickly it'll be finished - it only needs mostly everything doing but I'm quite sure i'll be competing with the Cerb again in '15

A chunk of work already done and a chassis rebuild and body strip could easily cost what you've spent buying it, so the car is almost FREE.
Some top man-maths there & I thought I was good

Andrew, I had a very nice trip to Spain, 25° and sunny. The guy who is selling the car is a very nice chap, he speaks good English, is not very technical but is quite a petrol head. He also has a couple of 1965 Mercedees 220SE's, both projects, which he may sell...A
He took the car about 10 years ago as part payment for a property from an English guy who was buying a property in Spain. He has a list of all the owners from new and a small amount of paperwork (3 or 4 old MOT's) the tax disk holder says David Gerald on it & he belives it was looked after by DG for its last owner.
The "permanent export from the UK" has been done. Due to the difficulty in Spanish paperwork + import tax + the lack of use (about 40 miles in 10 years) he has not completed the import of the car into Spain.
He has kept the car running & I drove the car & it goes, starts and stops. Couldn't drive it very far as its not legal on the road, it feels quite tired. The rocker cover says "REDLINE 1700 SPORT", the seller didn't know anything about this? When he got the car it was Silver, paint in poor condition, he has had it painted red, though he thinks it may have been orange originally.
Condition: The chassis is very solid, I guess its been restored at some point (or not much used) it has been waxoiled. The paint job looks pretty from a distance, up close the car masking was a somewhat inadequate, the edge of several bits of trim have red paint on them, also the chassis has a "red dust" look to parts of it where its been accidently blown over - should be easy to clean up because its on the waxoil. The rubber bits in the steering column are in poor condition and I guess most of the perishable bits would need replacing. There are signs of oil leaks from the back of the engine - I guess the seals are leaking, also oil on the bottom of the gearbox - again a small leak. The interior of the car is very tidy and in good condition, everything seems to work. Rear window is glass not heated.
Overall it could probably make a reasonable rolling resto for someone, who just wanted to potter around in it. For me, to put it on a track, I'd want to take it completely to bits and rebuild it. Chap wants 14k€ which is about £11k
