Removed the light cluster (number plate) and the n/s bolt is an allen key long bolt with what looks like an earth bolted to it.

Found a loose wire and wonder if this should also be connected to the connector.

Pic below hopefully explains.

Boot popper works but rear heated window doesn't seem to... could this be the problem?

That is the earth to the HRW (28 core soldered under the plastic cover)....follow it down to the trim panel behind the seat, it then should have a connector block looping through to the plate in front of the tank and earthed out outside the car on the plate stud.
