M Series rubber bumpers

I am after a pair of these. Has anyone tried the expensive dutch ones? Or do people think the glass fibre replicas are good enough? There is certainly a big price difference.

Hi Dave,

In the knowledge that the rubber ones eventually 'burst' with rust, I would say fibre glass....do admit i haven't tried them, tho !

Last time i asked for rubber replacements at david gerald you had to buy the whole contraption as well as the rubber facings at approx 140 quid each..... its amazing how you feel the existing ones are worth at least attempting a bodge at that price.

Do the fibreglass ones fit over existing does anyone on her know & approx how much are they out of interest?

Years ago, John Wadman had urethane ones cast, with stainless innards. Mine are still in great shape.

I am Lucky and only one of the front bumpers is a very little damaged.
do you think it's possible to glass over with 2oz or 4oz chopped strand matt direct. Then go over again with tissue to get a smooth finish. Rub down and paint satin black

I can take it, lol ...think of the weight saving in getting rid of the 4 standard rubber bumpers.

!!!Weight saving ...I CAN and HAVE made them light weight AND cut the backs out for people...BUT, Standard rubber bumpers are 1802g per corner....standard F/G bumpers are 799g Per corner.
At some point they have to have a stable shape and form, THEN, the ability to join the back to the front and the whole structure to the shell, whilst being black, they absorb heat, and not to just have them warp allow the wind blowing them off at speed!
LOL, I have never put the LW units on the scales.

Just to be cheeky for me thats a saving of nearly 2kgs if you do carbon.....thats cool.....can bring my lunch to the racing :-)

on my 3000S it has rubber bumpers and there is only a little problem with the front offside one. A few cracks which i think if i can fin a rubber or butyl filler i can repair it.
Does someome know of a rubber or butyl filler.

Hi Alan,

Bit like flogging a dead horse, probably........if you take off the bumper in question you will probably find its rusted inside, which will only get worse over time, as such filling is not going to help !

Maybe time for a new set (of two) retaining the sound one for later use (if one of the remainders fail)

As above!

I removed all of my bumpers for paint, one was really bad compared to others, the metal strip that the bolts go into easily fell out of the rubber bumper.

Also a fair amount of metal rust flakes... have considered bonding the metal back in and trying to seal it all bit feel its a waste of time...

Sae some glass ones in the flesh and didn't know they were until I got hold of one.
