Where do people locate their axel stands on the front and back? This is for general working on not just for over winter storage. I know some of the normal places I use but never been confident getting under my car jacked up on them.
I need to change my speedo cable for starters.
Cheers.

For me to get the whole car in the air I use the main chassis rail two front and two rear and as a back up I also have two on the outrigger these have no weight on them just a piece of mind thing for me really.

If its just a quick job then I put jack under the bolt on the outer edge of the out rigger near the wheel (every corner)

If the whole car up off the floor then I use the inner rails - front near where the engine mounts are and on the rear the rails either side of the prop where it bolts to the diff.

As a general rule for spaceframes, anywhere lots of tubes meet, or under main suspension mounts (at chassis).

Or for one wheel, under the suspension arm near wheel/upright/outer pivot point (or equiv).

The idea being to put stands somewhere where chassis is strong, and won't bend under weight of whole car .....

I also use a small piece of wood so that it will -
a) protect the paint
b) distort slightly so chassis tube is then 'captured' on stand and won't slip...
