Hi,

My petrol tank (3000 M) is leaking and is dripping through the rear valance. I'll have a look and see if I can use fuel tank putty to fix this. Do these tanks tend to leak at certain points (such as the end seams)?

Failing this, how hard are the tanks to remove, as I know POR do a fuel tank repair kit that I could try.

Thanks!

Simon,

The tanks tend to rust through at the bottom where the retaining straps are/should be bonded into the body.

The utimate solution is an aluminium tank available from Adrian Venn.

The other place where the tank can leak is where the inlet pipe from the fuel filler attaches to the tank (this is where my first tank failed).

Getting a tank out of an M is bit painful, it can be done without removing the rear window, but I would suggest removing at least one of the seats first.

I agree with Trevor, get a new one from Venny, but make sure that its been baffled to death, there's no point in putting a tank in with little baffling, you'll only wish a couple of months later that you had put a seriously baffled one in!!

Thanks for the advice chaps. I found the leaks exactly where you predicted. I've patched them using various epoxy products and hope that they hold for a while. But longer term a replacement tank is on the cards.

At least I know how to get it out now....
