Can anyone recommend anywhere in the South who can fix my engine? I have got money to spend but am having trouble finding somewhere who can do it. I don't want to entrust it to any old garage- I need somewhere with a good knowledge and a reputation for the Essex.

How far south is south?

IMHO JW Engineering is a good bet, but they are just north of Birmingham.

Thanks, thats not too far but JW is more of an engine out and dumped on his doorstep kind of guy. I haven't got the facilities so I want to leave the engine in the car and leave the whole thing to be fixed.

Something to do with the cam/cam lifters i think. It runs fine but there is a feint tapping noise which annoys me. i want it fixed and have money to spend.

if you can get it North of brum then you may as well take it to coventry and give it to Adrian Venn at exactly TVR. He still likes to play with the odd antiquated old tractor lump

What about Maidstone Sports cars? They are between Sutton Valence and Headcorn - close enough?

Adrian comprehensively answered a thread on the very same topic a couple of months ago, something about a worn follower or follower recession. If I remember it was a guy who couldn't quieten his valvegear down as well.

I would ring Adrian and be patient if i were you, take it to him when he has a slot free. he is always busy for a reason.

Scimitar-wise you could try Queensberry Road Garage in Northants - Kettering or Wellingborough, can't remember which - or Iain Daniels, who's in Appleby Magna, just of the top of the M42.

QRG are on the web, Iain is on 01530 515300. I think he trades as 'Classic Car Engineering'.

Iain's good, knows the Essex engine very well, (successfully bolted a supercharger to one with the help of JW)I've viewed the car and it's a top job.
Why don't you pull the heads off and have a look your self!
Essex are real easy engines to work on.

Talk to Ian at Apsley Transmissions in Hemel Hempstead - he did an Essex engine for me from Scrap to Sprint spec and it's a lovely engine - he's very patient and I believe will work on cars with the engine in

Have you tried Neil Hookway of BM Racing Services? He is in Southend on Sea and did a fantastic job with the rebuild of my yellow Series 3 Vixen (in this month's retro car magazine). He has rebuilt other V6 engines and has a good reputation. Why not give him a call? His mobile no. is 07885 233 288.
