Bonnet release, where's the nearest cliff.....
Discussion
It's finally happened....the passenger side bonnet catch on my 3000S is stuck / not releasing with the cable pull. I'm pretty sure the cable is loose in the locknut, and the release lever just isn't operating. I seem to recall there is a hole somewhere acessible from the passenger footwell that enables it to be released in some way, so just before I jump does anyone have a magic remedy ???
Hi Peter
On the oppisite side to the lever arm side of the catch unit is a extension an 4MM hole ...in the bodyshell below this is a hole which should be filled with a mushroom type grommet, remove the carpet trim above the passeger foot well, push the grommet through, then with along thin screwdriver poke this up and lever the bonnet catch open. Yes, yes, yes YEEEESSSSSS !!
But not a job I really enjoyed I have to say, the pokey thing through a hole idea is good in principle but a crap piece of engineering, in the end I had to insert my head into the footwell, loosen the nuts on the two bolts that hold the lower plate in place then apply a certain amount of brute force and bingo ! Now I can get under the bonnet of my P& J; while off, and with the spring tensioner released, seems a good time to check for the free operation of the catches. Really glad that didn't happen one night when I was out and it was about to start raining.
