Help. The puddle under my car is getting larger. My first generation (?) essex is fitted with a hydraulic clutch actuation system and the slave is now leaking badly. Being an alloy unit in a cast iron housing there appears to have been significant corrosion over the last 40 years or so meaning that even though there's no retaining circlip it won't budge.

Does anyone know how to get the damn thing out (don't have room to get a sledge hammer in there) or is it possible to change the seals without removing the unit?

Phil.

They corrode into the hole. If your lucky you can free it with lots of doses of Plus Gas over a few days. Another option is Locktite Freeze and Eeze or as a last resort heat.

If you end up ruining it you could try Adrain Venn, Steve Reid etc or Burton Power.

Good Luck

Phil,

In the very unlikely event Adrian or Steve can't help the Gilbern Owners Club keep exchange stainless steel sleeved units in stock. Drop me an email if you want me to negotiate using my membership number :-)
