After looking for the right 3000M, I've gone for something different.
I've purchased Vixen S2 SYD8G. Very pleased with the car so far.
I'm looking to do some competition with it - track based hopefully rather than hills.
Just a few questions some might be able to help with -

I've currently got the original fin alloys on the car. I'm looking at running it on Yoko 048's and was thinking of purchasing some new wheels. I had compomotive ML's on my M Turbo which were 15x7". Would I go for 15x6" or 7"?? They did seem quite heavy I remember so does anyone use the originals maybe with a spacer?

Jellison - looking back through threads I noticed you had some black ML's 15x6" in November possibly for sale - have you still got them??

Another thing I've been looking to do - is possibly fit a LSD - Quaife I guess, is it an easy straight swap job? Triumph GT6 I think?

The car has a roll cage but at present its on 3 point harnesses, I was looking at 5 points. Is that a case of glassing in some backing plates and bolting in or more complicated?

Sorry for the 20 questions, all help much appreciatedsmile

15j x 6 ML's will be purchased in the TR6 fitment from Compomotive. They fit the front with no issues. The rears are the problem. The ML's will run too close to the lower pivot bar and will rub during cornering on the sidewall resulting in very interesting handling and a blow out.

If you want to run a 6" ML then you will need to run a 10mm spacer and longer rear wheelstuds. I also spotweld the stud in place on the hub flange.

Speak to Don at Tec del minilite who can sell you minilites in the correct fitment or a variation to suit your needs for much the same price as the Compomotive.

assuming you want to run a 205 / 60 / 15 Yoko

A 7" may be a better wheel but you would have to speak to Don and measure very carefully and ensure that the backset measurement can be achieved in a 7" that doesn't foul the pivot bar or outer arch. You will struggle to achieve this A 6" is an easy fit though as long as you know about the pivot bar issue.

Neil.

Thanks Neil.
Sounds interesting. I do remember hearing something about that before. So I take it the Minilites rub on the pivot aswell. Do you have thoughts on running the original wheels - up to the job?
The tyres will be 205/60/15s.

I guess its not a major problem to fit spacers and longer bolts is it?

Hi Neil,
Sneaked in here from the Wedge forum - 205/60/15 is a standard Wedge tyre for which I will need a set shortly, however there are progressively less options available for this size - are you suggesting that Yoko's are the best option? pls clarify which one.
thanks
David

NB Will we see you at the Blackpool meet on Sunday or are you too busy building the beast.

If you are going to run the original 5J wheel than the max size tyre I would run would be a 185 / 60 / 15

The Minilites can be purchased in a variety of different offsets so you can compare the std ML 6j TR6 fitment and then order the correct fitment for a vixen so you don't need a spacer.

I run 8" on my car which needs a great deal of body and chassis mods to work.

6" is easy under std arches but you need to measure carefully or use the TR6 fitment and spacer at rear. I run odd sizes of tyre front to rear so differing offset wheels isn't an issue.

A rule of thumb is that you need to stretch the skinniest tyre possible on the widest rim possible to ensure tyre wall flax is minimised. This is especially important if you are running around a circuit.

Don at Tech del knows what the fitments are so you can ask him to provide a 6j wheel with 10mm more "stick outward" that a TR6 fitment. Personally I would measure and buy the widest track possible

Neil.

Dave. I like Yokos not sure which the current best seller is for a road car. The A0 48's are more for a track car I think? Demon Tweeks are a good supplier of YOKO's

I will probably be at Blackpool Saturday dropping engine off to John. I will see if I can kill 2 birds and drop off on Sunday.

See you have decided to keep the wedge then?

Neil.

Regards your LSD.

Jigsaw Racing can supply a Quaiff Diff. They also sell a lovell Alloy rear diff casing. If you are racing then 200hp is about your limit for the Spitty unit. A well sorted x-flow should be safe though.

Why not run the car in Class C of the Dunlop Tuscan Challenge this year?? The car could be very competetive on the shorter tracks??

Yes keeping the Wedge for this summer but still looking for an 'interesting' project car - Taimar Turbo or V8M etc
Hope you make Sunday

cool, thanks guys.
I think I'd like Comp ML's, prefer the look of them. Any suggestion for supplier of spacers and bolts?

Neil - re the LSD, just had a look at Jigsaw, they look quite a bit more expensive than Quaife direct.
Quaife are showing £495+VAT which isn't too bad.

Thanks ColGsmile

Run longer stud and then you have option to run different spacer wheels, etc.

We have a variety spacers on the TR's but very long studs with open ends. Just been you have alot more options.

I saw SYD8G was up for sale a while back and thought someone has to buy that!! Not me though as it needs to be appreciated by someone willing and able to race.

Saw your paintings at Goodwood a few years back - very talented (i'll buy one one day i'm sure - just got to think where to put it!)

No doubt you'll have some limited prints of SYD8G to help pay for it!! smile

Minilites are exactly the same as ML's Tim. Compomotive copied the Minilite which are the original.

Thse are 6j x 15 ML Compos with 195 / 65 / 15 road tyres and ran a 10mm spacer.

These Honeys are 8J x 15 Minilites. I know which ones I prefer. For my money the minilites are a better finished wheel and more durable and better made than the compo. there are also 2 styles these and the mag style.

Hard to believe its the same car!!

Just spoke to minilite -
Prices are actually about the same or cheaper than Comps, nice guy too.

The guy is suggesting they dont need a spacer or at least he's not heard of anyone use them on a vixen.
6" are +7 offset with a backspace (inside rim to hub mounting) of 96mm.
7" are +5 offset with a backspace of 106.5mm

He thinks 7" will fit..
