vixen or 1600M propshaft
Discussion
bought this car without engine, gearbox, propshaft and some other
now I have a crossflow engine, type 9 box but no propshaft, is the flange on the pic a GT6 or spitfire mk4 or what
( vixen S4 )?

Another question: need a Ford sierra propshaft and also a triumph to assemble this one, where cut and weld ? near the rear flange?

Hi,
When I fitted the Zetec and T9 in my Vixen, I had a Hillman Avenger propshaft laying around. Its similar to the old Ford RS2000 propshaft and thicker in diameter than the modified Triumph items used. This will fit in the snout of the T9 box, but will need shortening. You will need to measure the distance between the snout of the gearbox and the flange on the diff.
For the diff flange, just get hold of the Spitfire/Herald prop
Find a reputable propshaft engineer/recondtioner and send both halves to them along with your measurement (i.e. Barprops).
In answer to your question of where to cut - yes, the main part of the Ford prop would be kept and the cup for the UJ would be cut off the Triumph item and added onto the shortened Ford prop.

Any propshaft manufacturer worth dealing with would be able to make a propshaft up for you. It is the one part of any car that I'm happy to sub out and purchase new. If the prop breaks it can be really nasty. Most will ask you for the box and diff flange and the length from the flange face on the diff to the lip of the oil seal on the gearbox output shaft. They will produce a suitable new shaft for you. Of course this is IMHO...
I use Propshaft Services Limited in Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, Scotland and can't recommend them enough.

this company also has a good feedback from kit car builder with T9 gearbox or bike engined cars, 4 options for the rear flange ( perhaps Triumph, not sure at the moment?) and no parts to send by me!
