Hi there,
just a quick enquiry from a wedge owner on behalf of a friend who has an S4. He runs a garage business and acquired the car in settlement of an outstanding bill. He has fitted a 1700cc crossflow after failing to source parts for the 1500cc engine that was in it when it came into his ownership, and tells me that all it needs for an MOT is the braking system adjusted, and is planning to fit Blisteins all round. He has rewired it & refurbished the fuel tank. Chassis is sound (surface rust only), bodywork fine, but would benefit from a respray. It is currently black, however the original log book states it was red and fitted with a 1725 Herald engine (chassis no. 2557145). The car appears 'standard' apart from the replacement engine. There is incomplete and patchy service history, having been garaged for 15 plus years. He was thinking of using it for track days, but came off a bike at Castle Combe last year and still isn't 100% fit, so he wondered what it might be worth,
a) in its current state with a valid MOT so the buyer may choose what to do with it further
b) set up for track days
c) resprayed and presentable all round.
We believe only 23 were made, being an interim vehicle with Vixen body on an M chassis. So he thought he should get some advice first before deciding what he should do. Any opinions or thoughts from people on the subject would be most welcome.
Kind regards,
Andy

It sounds like a vixen 1300. A failed model built on both an S3 and S4 chassis. It may have had a larger 1500 triumph engine fitted later in its life as a direct swap. the correct engine was the 1300 spitfire unit. it was only a few bob cheaper than a 1600 crossflow version so never sold. most have now been retro fitted with ford engines.just a quick enquiry from a wedge owner on behalf of a friend who has an S4. In my opinion the S4 is the least desireable vixen. It always looked as if the wrong body had been plonked on an M chassis and sat too high.
values for vixens are as I see them
£1500 up for a basket case requiring total resto
£3000 up for a runner with MOT
£5000 to £6500 for a tidy car which has good paint and full mot no faults
£12k upward for a concours fully rebuilt and restored car.
Your car with a 1700 x flow retro fitted will probably be worth between £4 - £4500 if it has no chassis rot and reasonable paintwork.
Neil.
