I have just got the car running again after an 18 month restoration. All was going well until the expansion tank blew a tiny hole. This tank has been braized in a number of places so I think it should be replaced. I've had a quote of between 150 and 200 quid to get one made in alloy. Does anyone have a decent used example they could sell ?

Also how necessary is this tank ? I notice that Demon Tweeks sell an in line alloy connection which has a radiator filler cap with a 1/4'' outlet for an expansion bottle. Will this work ok ?

Regards

Mike

I have one off a 1974 2500 M..... but it is in Canada. I have not checked whether it is any good or not. It came off my donor car that I bought for a new chassis after I 'smashed the Pumpkin'. If all else fails contact me:- jbuszard@nrcan.gc ca

Unless you are wanting to keep your car "standard" you could replace the tank with a more modern header tank with pressurised cap.. that way you wont need an expansion tank!

The VW polo has a nice round one that looks quite smart painted black!

Wouldnt require a huge amount of change to the plumbing either!
