Trying to get the bits and pieces of my Vixen S3 working. The oil press guage (mech) was never connected, no line or fittings, now it is set up and reading, but I notice oil creeping up the opaque pressure pipe towards the guage. Is this ok, should I expect a gusher in the cabin, will Shell be interested!? All comments gratfully received.

Evening. Inside the oil pressure gauge is a very small brass bladder that is shaped into a small spiral. It's the tiny expansion and contraction of this that deflects the needle. It's possible this has a hairline fatigue crack and therefore pressure is escaping (hence not being connected?) BUT I'd say the most likely is that the compression connection on the back of the gauge is poor.

Perceived wisdom is that you should "bleed" the gauge line when installing as well.

At least you didnt make the mistake I did.... Forget to connect up the pipe atall and then spend ages trying to figure out why there is engine oil in the cabin tongue out

Thanks Seabass, will remake guage connection, bleed off remaining air and watch what happens.
