Door striker plates - 75M

Trying to fit a new door striker plate to the M body but one of the screws just turns.
Anybody know what the 'nut bit' in the door pillar is - individual nuts - threaded plate - or?
Secondly how best to get access - looks like I may have to cut an access hatch in the door pillar or wheel arch?

Any help appreciated.

There is a access cut-out under the trim on the door post...some have cast plates and others a steel plate with nuts welded to it...1/4 UNF.

My tapping & proding stick let me down on this occasion, I convinced myself there was no access slot - now found it.
