RPY 157G Owner / PO - Wheels?
Discussion
My 8 saucepan aluminium Vixen wheels are all horrific in terms of balance and I'm looking to invest in some new wheels.
I have various pictures of "minilite" style alloys on Vixens & I'm partially aware of dubious fitments that are said to be correct by the manufacturer/running spacers (which I'd like to avoid). I've read previous threads but links are good.
It seems to be a decision between Compomotive & Minilite themselves.
These look just the job - can anyone give me manufacturer, type, size (15" same as originals I presume) / width & offset or point me in the direction of the owner/po;

They look to me like Compomotive ML 15" 5.5s but offset & they need a spacer on the rear?

Regards
James

A 5.5J x 15 compomotive doesn't need a spacer.
A 6J X 15 does. On a TR6 fiment wheel which is what compomotive sell as a TVR Vixen fitment a 10mm Spacer is required at the rear with longer studs. it is best to junk the old screw in triumph studs and switch over to a press in splined ford type stud to take a longer stud in metric thread which are much stronger and a bit fatter . You will need to drill out your flanges slightly to press them in and a snot of weld on the rear face is good insurance if you cannot work out drill sizes with a zeus table.
On a road car using a spacer, 10mm gets the wheel away from the lower pivot rod and stops the inside tyre wall rubbing on the pivot rod during cornering
In my opinion if you are using a 6J x 15 wheel of whatever manufacture a 185 / 65 / 15 tyre fills the arch much better and in better keeping than a 195 / 60 / 15 profile. Don't waste your time with a 5.5J wheel.
Ask the compomotive seller what the 6J x 15 wheel backspace is IE measurement from rear hub mounting flange to inner rim. Then Ring Del at Tec Del Minilight and tell him you want a vixen 6J x 15 rim and ask him what the backspacing is. The difference with Del is that he will ask you what you want it to be!!

These are 6J 15 Compos which had to use a spacer running ford studs and 185 / 65 yokos. those same wheels are now fitted to a grantura MK3 owned by Fiscracer on here.

Hi,
I built RPY157G as a hillclimb car.
The wheels were bought direct from Compomotive, and are 6x15 MLs, I don't remember the offsets, but I ordered them to fit a Vixen, not TR6.
The tyres were 205/50x15's and the rear uprights were Adrians uprated ones. I did use a spacer on the rear, 5mm I think it was, but the tyres did still just kiss the bottom bolt when cornering hard.

And don't forget. Adrians uprights have 10mm more offset than the std upright.I built RPY157G as a hillclimb car.
