Hi, i dont normally post in these parts but I have a couple of questions which hopefully you guys can help me with. My father in law was set on buying an MGB GT and he has looked at loads. Today we went out for the whole day and saw 3 and were not that fussed by them. At the last place we went to we saw a really nice TVR Taimar which is not actually advertised yet as he only got it in today.
Anyway, he fell in love with it. So we have come away to do a bit of research and have found they are quite a rare car. He has found another one which I have added a link for, and I wanted to know if anyone knows about this actual car. Also in general do you know what to look out for on them, as common problems. He is thinking about travelling up tomorrow to see this one and wants to go with at least half an idea!! Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi Jim,
Very quick reply.
The main area of concern is the chassis as the last thing you want to do is to have to lift the body so the chassis can be welded. Outriggers and the rails above the rear shock absorbers are the first to go.
Have a test drive and see if you like the car. Check that everything works.
Look for cracks and blistering in the paint work. Heavy cracking at any one point could call for further investigation.
Taimar's are very good value for money this one I would say is priced at the top end.
Good Luck,
Steve

My Dad has one of 4 normally aspirated wide body Taimar SEs and loves it.
I too think they are good value. They're good to drive and nice and torquey. Mechanical parts are generally reliable and cheap to replace. David Gerald are a good source of parts.
As above, chassis should be the main cause for concern but in general I thik it will be easier and cheaper to maintain the chassis/body than an MGBGT and the TVR should retain its value better (it won't deteriorate in the same way over time).
At nearly £7k this does seem to be near the top of the market.
Good luck with your search

Taimar at Nadder valley now advertised on his website at £8995 !
Appears to be a decent well kept motor but a little pricey at that level ..
Wish I had kept the 3000M now !!
Regards
Brian
PS - I think my son has a similar ocupation to yourself ...at least he calls it that !!!
Yeah well when we first saw it it was 8k, but that was before we showed an interest and it then went up to £8.5k. Clearly he has high hopes for it. What does your son do then Brian?Taimar at Nadder valley now advertised on his website at £8995 !

keep in touch and let us know how you got on with the purcahse of any Taimars / M series ..you and your father will defnitely not regret it ...
Regret selling my 3000M 2 years ago but with the house sold and mortgage almost paid off now planning another Classic TVR ..however the 3000M that I had was immaculate and finding it very difficult to source a similar standard..
Son is a full time 'keeper of the Peace' ......in Grampian Police based in Aberdeen City ...and all its vices !!
Similar ?

I sold my last 3000M in about 1977 and regret it along with losing the index TVR 91 on another M the same year
but ran out of money at the time. However, It's great seeing Dead Spider rescue a Taimar so that's good.
(My counter-part in my last role was a DCI in Abderdeen, just about as hard as the famous stuff from there

Well he did buy it
My father in law went up the other day and drove the car. He did really like it and put a deposit down on it. He started to drive home and then got cold feet. He went back to the dealer who were very good and gave him his money back!!! Im not sure, but I think he wanted to be able to say that he once owned a TVR when he is next down the pub!!
Seriously, he was put off my the colour in the end. I think he felt it was a bit too loud with the blue stripe on white. He has been to look at an MGBGT yesterday which I think he may go for sadly. Thanks for all the advice anyway.
