I do have a quick question, at the momnent a previous owner has tie wrapped the water pipe at eh front between the 2 water canisters to the chassis and it syphones water out.. is it normal to be at the top slightly above the canisters??
ALso do you's have an issues about stood in traffic?? the previous ownerr told me theres a switch wired to an electric fan a(and this works) and said it doesnt like too much standing idling.. :S
ps.. thanks for the warm welcome

Mick: Hope you enjoy TVR ownership as much as our family on this side of the pond do. We have 2 V8 Taimars that were converted by the Canadian imported for my Spousal Unit and myself and our 2 daughters have a 1973 supercharged 2500M that they share. If you want pics of our cars and the minor body changes that we have done over the years drop us an e-mail at
aleppard@hotmail.com
and put something TVR related in the subject line. Looking forward to any pics that you post of your car.

Can you post a picture of your water pipe , I'm not sure what You are describing. My car has only one expansion tank mounted on inner wing. I have the tall radiator. The Cossie powered car has the earlier low wide radiator , with the cossie expansion tank so not standard set up.
Unfortunately can not comment about running hot when in traffic as both our cars were brought as non runners , mine having sat in a garage for 5 years and the other runs but also stood for a year un used.
During a conversation with Adrian Venn , he told me ( I think , correct me if I'm wrong ) that as long as everything is ok then engine should run at 95 degrees and stay steady.
Has Your engine still got the yellow fan mounted on the fan belt pulley ? or has this been removed and replaced with the electric fan. Ideally You should have a thermostatic switch to turn the fan on and off if case you forget to look at the temp gauge. My cobra has one which seems to work ok.

Geoff...all, RE the comment on 95 degrees this relates to.... std upright radiators cars (where the std core is 2 tube) assuming that the voltage stabiliser is working OK, these run at 95' regardless of outside temp differences. With these cars, a third core will then have the car running at what thermostat you put in and then, with a bolt change and the fan removed, a low profile electric fan will fit on the back of the radiator and release 2-3 bhp. I have a couple of pics of engine bays that are the same as mine...
Oh and yes the tleeow fan is still attached and working
one engine bay.. here both bottles are black

here one is clear/white plastic and the other black

a simplified diagram I found to expalin them

V8TVR1978 - I'm sure i will do enjoy the onwership of her.. To be honest I feel a little 'wow' factor and thinking shouldn't I be honourable to own her.. the car comes with a full histoty from day one, I'll be the 3rd owner of the car and have a complete original undirtied tvr owners workshop manual, 2 medals/trophies she's won and loads of spares (4 heads, lights, fuse box and u/j joint plus other stuff)

cant wait to have a meet with other tvr owners
.. mind I have a bit of work to do, seen some pics of some and they're gleaming, mine needs a good clean but that is all
hopefully lol

The drawing is incorrect, in that the TVR system has never used the top connection off the water pump, but instead it runs 2 T pieces (one of them being the bleed unit) with the other connected the engine side of the heater control valve. WITHIN the pipe (they get thrown away when people replace the pipes)is a reducer that forces flow through the heater matrix BUT allows a circuit through the choke and back to the engine when the heater valve is closed.
Adrian@
This comment applies to the 3000M ONLY the pictures show 2 different era cars but both have move away from original no doubt BECAUSE they had not realised the reducer was inside the tube they removed.
Another thought is that the removal of the controlled air boxes leads to carb icing and along with poor understanding of the auto choke system (when putting on fancy filters) lead people to manual choke conversions.

Micheal: I enjoyed your pics in your e-mail but did you realize that your steering wheel is on the wrong side. Sounds like you have a car with some good history. There will always be "work" that needs to be done on any car so just do what you can and enjoy your car to the fullest. Don't be scared to ask questions when you need to and guys like Adrian won't steer you in the wrong direction. Even though we have an excellent British mechanic here in Calgary I follow Adrian's posts when I can for his knowledge and experience. I have sent you an e-mail and I hope the 5 pics also get to you. If they don't just let me know and I will resend them.
Wayne.

Hi wayne.. well thats because I live in England
although I think you may have gathered that from my email
I've read up that there was only ever 395 taimars ever built, most of which are in america
On my taimar the air box has been removed for some reason, hopefully I should be getting it with the car so I can refit, hopefully this is some else that maybe relating to water and heating side.
PS Adrian@ I know this may sound odd but Iwas at Newark 2010 this weekend gone and was talknig to a taimar owner, he mentioned of a person called adrian and about on here.. I'm guessing and hoping that this could be you??

Hi Mike,
I presume so, I had hoped to be there, but my father took ill with his voice box failing and at 87, I thought I would spend fathers day with him, pondering on how, as he worked for the local government for 33 years, he now had another 6 years before he could happily peg it (that way he'd would had his fill of pension)!

Was looking forward to a chat Adrian - you were missed (but for the right reasons).I presume so, I had hoped to be there, but my father took ill with his voice box failing and at 87, I thought I would spend fathers day with him, pondering on how, as he worked for the local government for 33 years, he now had another 6 years before he could happily peg it (that way he'd would had his fill of pension)!

Morning John,
Over the last few weeks I had convinced Joolz to let me take Zane over (it would of been a first for him).
It's only now that dad's getting on that the snippets casually slip out ....like when he was picked up from hospital as a boy in the family Rolls (he was the governesses son) the whole hospital turned out, not to see a Rolls but because it was the ONLY car they had seen! AND racing Bugatti's and Singers for Kaye Don...so missed for the right reasons.
Three of my rebuilds there though...nice to see them being used! congrats on the win.

The Heater box was removed from yours to fit a larger battery so it would start after being stood for a while in the garage without pissing around with the extension and charger!
You will notice this modification on both the pictures you posted, and yes it comes with the original box along with everything else original with the car and a huge box of spares!
As for the electric fan, it is fitted because the standard fan on the engine is removed, what my dad said was you will need to turn it on when in traffic so it doesn't get too hot, but we have never had a problem with it overheating!!!
Oh, for those of you confused, mick is buying the Taimar in question from my dad, so i know ALOT about its history from several "can you get your hand up there" jobs from my dad! (how i love having skinny hands!)
