I always thought that all Vixens had their spare located on the rear parcel shelf. However looking at the photos of the red S4 just sold on PH, the spare is located under the bonnet as on an 'M' series.

I guess this makes sense as the S4 uses the M chassis. However I was wondering whether anyone has moved the spare to under the bonnet on an S3 or S2. Is it possible and were there any complications apart from welding a suitable fixing in situ.

Hi Moto

Have you seen this http://www.martyngriff.co.uk/tvr/main.htm I think this is the type of mod you are referring to. My wife runs a little smart roadster and it doesn't even have a spare wheel - just one of those aerosol emergency inflators. No substitute for a spare but very light!

Sorry - just seen it's an S4 with the later chassis.

I did a total rebuild on OBH 62L in the early 90's for my own use after seeing it advertised in Sprint as a heap for£950.
When complete I did Zolder & Switzerland to run it in.
With fruity xflo, 5 speed box & TR6 3.45 diff it did 40mpg.
A std. S4 Vixen has earlier type Vixen Radiator. In order to maximise cabin space, & move the spare wheel from usual position above fuel tank,I fitted an early 3000M crossflow type rad so I could fabricate an M type spare wheel mount.

I spoke with Adrian who said that unfortunately it's not feasible on the S3 or S2 unless you raise the bonnet slightly which works but makes the bonnet look unhappy and wrong on the car.

My last Tiv was a late Griff and that never had a spare from new, just 2 cans of tyre weld stuff and in 8 years / 10k luckily I never needed them.
