Wobly webs 15" for Grantura

For a Grantura project I am looking for wobly web wheels as seen on period race pictures.

Good luck in your search but I would be very wary of using these original wheels now as they are unlikely to retain the strength and integrity that they had when new.

Yes, I understand, but this would mean that I should get a lot wheels offered when no one has use for it. Nevertheless I am planning a reproduction of those wheels.

Crosthwaite and Gardiner have remade magnesium wobbly web wheels for early Lotus race cars which look the same as your pictures. Won't be cheap, but still cheaper than doing it yourself.

I was told that they only offer 13" ones, I need 15". Anyway, I am not sure if they would be cheaper.

Your wobbly webs are gorgeous. Magnesium alloy wheels can be professionally inspected for damage not visible to the naked eye. If used for racing, they should be inspected every season. (the appropriate process is dye penetrant)

If you choose to create your own, Consider some of the readily available Aluminium casting alloys. There are a few on here who might be able to help, having cast Al bits before. Also, forging can make stronger pieces than casting & therefore parts can be lighter.

Have you ever seen a Mag wheel go away? I saw one, (a Marchesini, I think) granade during a motorbike race. It was quite dramatic.

Mmmmmm, big Campis on a Stratos, yum. I was convinced that I wanted Halibrands for my Mmmmmonster, until I realized that the additional fire hazard and inspection routine (for me) outweighed the benefits.

in them, so I guess you could go that way if you can find it. (the e-mail in them)

the wheels are more special then I always thought, I only remembered them from some old TVR picture in a book with red wheels and thought, hm...some strange iron pressed wheels
but they are magnesium?
