I don't think this has been posted on here, he escaped with back injury but recovering well apparently.

I,ve seen some fairly scary F1 accidents at Eau Rouge (Villeneuve x2 , Zonta, Salo) but the really scary thing about this one was the car clearing both the tyre barrier & catch fencing before going mountain-biking down the valley by the look of things.
Glad he (& the marshalls) are all OK.
Maybe the corner is a bit emasculated for modern F1 , but we will see how it is this year with DRS during practice & Quali. . . . Oh lordy ! !

That's just overtaken the previous scariest accident I've seen at Eau Rouge, which was a Caterham Grads race where someone ended up beached in the middle of the track over the crest and decided he'd rather take his chances, up sticks and leg it rather than wait to get t-boned.Glad he (& the marshalls) are all OK.

There's a lovely video of a car jinking around it past full pelt within inches as the chap was standing on top of the roll cage!

Sadly, it looks like the tyre wall helped launch the car over the barrier, rather than stop him. I can only guess he lost it coming through eau rouge, got a little bit of air, and the tyre wall did the rest. He's a very very lucky boy to walk away from that one

Tend to agree. The consequences were massive when the huge aggregate traps were on each side. Lose it and there was no alternative - you were going to the scene of your own very large accident. I'm going back this year to race - see if it is any less intimidating!Glad the guy in the original post was OK - very scary stuff.
