I always loved that car. Maybe it was due to it being one of the high-end Scalextric models though, rather than it's on-track prowess...

Indeed. I was quite relieved when they were band, although found the reason they invented a bit amusing (I forget what it was now). They should have just come out and said "we're banning them because they look bloody stupid".
