I'm so bored of the arguments, b
hing and attacks about this driver or whoever at every given opportunity.It's really driving away some of the best contributors to this forum.
That Lewis Film Thread, summed up all that's bad and wrong with this forum. I actually flagged it up yesterday and felt that it was only there to antagonize and bait people into yet another argument.
I'm not immune from it - i get sucked into it as well - but more and more I'm just ignoring threads once and inevitably end up in a b
h fest.I don't know how the mods are going to deal with it - but it's about time some action is taken.
It's definitely getting out of hand. I used to love the analysis of races and the discussions, these days it's invariably the case that as soon as the race has finished the antagonising and moaning begins, and clicking 'X' to unsubscribe becomes appealing.
I'd far rather there was a thread purely discussing the race, and a 'other F1 stuff' thread running concurrently, but inevitably the childish snipes wouldn't make the transition and the margins would be so blurred it'd be pointless without a mod having to constantly monitor the thread. Sad state of affairs TBH.

Not got time to discuss right now as have to get home but I must say that I am fed up of sensible discussion being gagged by people who either can't see anything wrong or anything right with certain drivers.
I posted on the 'film' thread as it seemed to be the most appropriate place to say what i thought and to see if i was alone in my opinions. With a small exception all that i saw was the haters and the fan boys digging in again.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a bit of banter, but I've sat drinking with fans of other drivers at Silverstone & it's been less hostile!
TBH there was a lot of vaild points made it that thread. But I do agree it doesn't take long to turn into a bh fight. One point though, The fact it does turn into a fight proves that support for F1 is strong and many people do have strong feelings and attachments to todays crop of drivers.
Some people may go a lil too far, Myself inc on occasion. But whatever the topic, passion on this site is always high and I dont think it should be curbed to heavily.

The problem is that it is hard not to react.
I'm not a fan of any particular driver - I follow teams - but when contributors pick on someone all the time it requires an attitude that I have failed to master not to react. I sympathise with those who are fans of a particular driver. For them it must be impossible.
The 'Official' threads are not worth reading a couple of hours after the end of the race yet that's when my F1 fan friends and I get all excited (Canada excepted of course). We end up swopping emails sometimes for days. There's so much you miss during the race. (Not that I'm so sad as to rerun the race on Sky+.)
I'm not sure it is possible to police it though although specific individuals continuing criticism of a specific driver should be stopped.
Except Alonso, of course. The cheating, blackmailing . . . . sorry, got carried away there.

Agree with the all sentiment above.
I've tried and tried to remain objective over the years but admit in the last couple of weeks have resorted to somewhat subjective interpretations of name-calling, but it's hard when some are clearly... well, stupid and have little idea of many facets of racing. I guess this is a direct a result of the lack of intelligence of some of the posts/claims/insults/'jokes' etc.
With haters of any driver, they see a chance to dig [while they can] and indulge.
This is an eventual feature of internet annonimity on any internet forum. I don't think any has found a cure other than periods of banage.
Every user must have a verified real name before posting? Oh no, that will just result in random internet-fuelled murders...
Maybe only people with a racing licence can post? That won't leave many people!

I didn't see a problem with the Lewis/Movie thread but if there was... how about a specific F1 section where people can have a sensible thread about the race itself and other threads if they want to go FanBoi vs Hater. Closing the thread was a bit like your Dad coming and catching you smoking.
This place does seem to be plumbing new depths recently, but I'm not sure it's much worse than other forums. Sadly, the blinkered, tribal attitudes which blight sports like football seem to have crossed over into motorsport and the internet encourages people to make antagonistic/insulting remarks they'd never make face to face, safe behind the veil of their anonymity.
Some forums include an "ignore" button, which allows visitors to filter out the worst offenders without relying on mods to ban them, which is a tough call without imposing too much on freedom of expression. Could that work?

It ends up happening on all forums and blogs. They start off great, with people who are knowledgeable and you can get a lot from. You end up thinking how you could have missed that certain something. Or a bloke who has inside info, even if a little out of date, writes something and you realise it explains a lot. Then the mob moves in, the good guys move out and you realise there is little point in staying.
When Button and Hamilton collided I bet a lot of us could work out who would blame Hamilton straight away. You know there is no point in arguing - but you do.

I think that ultimately a few people need to be shown the door for a time. I think it would make far more of a difference for the notice of a ban email to say "you have been nominated by fellow users for a ban because you consistently act like a bellend in the General Motorsport forum. It has entered the realm of trolling. You are banned for X amount of time etc", rather than "you've been banned by a mod."

i see so many illogical, provocative, and badly put together posts that it infuriates me! I can't help but respond, sadly my posts probably fall in to the same trap. in trying to refute a clearly stupid argument, your argument itself becomes stupid and ill-balanced and provocatively stated.
