Moby Dick is alive. Freisinger Motorsport from germany build a 935/78 Moby Dick, chassis 935-007. The cars was driven by Stéphane Ortelli in Spa Francorchamps in may 2011. Not finished with technical problems - as usual :-)

The greatest 911 interpretation ever IMO
Having witnessed its lone race win (from 4 starts) by 7 laps at Silverstone in 1978, bar the 917 its the most fabulous thing Porsche have ever produced
Qualified 3rd at Le Mans in amongst the prototypes, and finished 8th
Had 2 other outings at the Norisring and Vallelunga IIRC, technical problems blighted the car on both occasions

I believe Porsche only raced the car for 3 or 4 races in 1978 first time at the Silverstone 6 hours which it won. They also ran it at Le Mans in 1978 where it clocked 235 M.P.H. down the Mulsanne.
I was a privileged 11 year old to be at the Silverstone 6 hour to see it win with Ickx and I think Mass driving it. Also racing that year was Ronnie Peterson & Hans Stuck in the spectacular BMW 320 turbo. Great cars, great event, great drivers..........happy times never forgotten.

Spot on, Ronnie/Hans and the 320t were the only competition to the 935, but as ususal the car brokeConsidering Ickx/Mass won by 7 laps, that race is still one of my all time favourite memories

There was only ever 1 'Moby Dick'The factory 935/78 of which the car in the video is a replica of,(the original is part of the Porsche museum collection I believe)
A number of other similar (looking) cars were built by private teams, mainly for IMSA in the US
None of them ran the same engine as the factory car though
the original "moby dick" is part of the porsche museum, but raedy for race, the car was in Goodwood last year.
Porsche Motorsport in Weissach build two (maybe 3) frames (what is the correct word in english) for the season 1979. the museum car is Chassis 935/78-006, they build also chassis 935/78-007 but this car was not completed. From 1979 to 1988 the chassis was stored in Korntal near Stuttgart and was sold in '88 to Kerry Morse. in 2008 Freisinger Motorsport bought the Chassis and completed the car only with rare original parts. engine and gearbox was used in the car 935/78-006. you can read the complete history (in german) on their website, and see few photos.
