Porsche to return to Le Mans with new LMP1 car in 2014

it will probably run the 2013 spec car that Audi did, but with a new coat of paint and a porker badge!

Part of me wonders if this isn't something to do with the fact that Audi are getting close to Porsche's tally of overall victories.

Either way, I think Audi and Porsche have sufficient separation as brands to be able to go head to head - Audi with their diesel technology and Porsche with a petrol hybrid.

It;s slightly unfair though - Porsche had massive competition, Audi have only had Peugeot.

Whatever, it's great news. It seems as if the VW Group are getting serious in top line Motorsport!!

Pretty sure Dr. Ulrich ruled that out sometime ago, on the basis that the regulations were so restrictive that they didn't allow Audi to showcase and test their new technologies.

Yes, he's said that many times - Audi feel F1 is far too restrictive for the supposed 'Pinnacle of Motorsport'.
F1 needs Audi, more than Audi needs F1. I hope they stay, when there is finally real competition. Imagine Porsche, Audi, Peugeot, Toyota, AstonMartin, Nissan - what about.....Ferrari??? Or if not, Lancia/Alfa/Maserati.....

Porsche have 16 overall wins.

Audi have won 10 of the last 13 races in which they competed at Le Mans.

So granted, not there yet, but getting they've racked up 10 wins in a very short space of time, and have a couple of years yet before Porsche reappear.

Thinking hard and can't think of any new technologies Audi have come up with. Reason they don't go to F1, simple they would have their arse handed to them (ditto Porsche).

This can only be good news for sports car racing. Not sure about hybrid but hey, I guess Le Mans has always been about new tech. Would love to see Ferrari return to the top end of sports car too. Like Porsche they have spent too long playing in GT. I guess they're priorty is F1 though.
Still, be great to see Porsche, Audi & those cheating cheese eating surrender monkeys at Peuogeot go head to head. Maybe see Henri get some factory backing and enter a competitive car too?

Also gave the Q7 v12 TDI an engine and helped to improve the diesel technology of their roadcar technology.

I was also thinking, last time Porsche announced a new LMP project (the RS Spyder LMP2 car) they also release the Carrera GT, maybe another hyper car is in the works?

gotta dissagree with you here mate. i'd go as far as saying more tech and development stuff from Audi's TDI racers have had more of a direct result on the roadcars they make.

have yet to see KERS, Regenerative braking, that silly popup rear wing bit on this years f1 cars, make it to any production car from Ferrari, Renault, etc.

Where do you think they pioneered their FSI technology?

Then there's their diesel technology

And their car this year was using lightweight technology that they are looking to push into their road cars
