There was talk last year that this years 24 hour would be broadcast live (on ESPN?) - does anyone know if this is happening? Also, is there likely to be any live timing over the internet?

Hopefully some of the below will be of use:

Live timing: Yes, TSL will be providing this.

TV: We are working on a deal at the moment.

Radio Silverstone (local FM & on the internet) normally broadcast the track PA - do we know if they will be doing this for the full 24?

Would make HUGE sense for Britcar as the Petit Le Mans finishes at about 0200 & the radio le mans listeners would be on a high wanting more

David, on the live timing is there any chance of being able to provide this to the garages via WiFi? It would be much slicker than the cctv system...

In theory yes (though there is no Wifi in the garages at the moment so it would all need to be installed) but the amount Silverstone charge for internet connections there would be a fair wack added to each entry fee to cover it so its very unlikely to happen.

I'd amazed if B24 is using The Wing pit this year (?) that there wouldn't be a good wi fi plumbed in providing timing and pa feed?

It wouldn't need to be internet access... Just a local area network over WiFi.

We are not using the Wing we are using the old Pits.

Rougue, if you want to organise access to the Silverstone network for your team I can put you in touch with the circuit team if you want to drop me a PM.

Oh old pits - cheers david, familiarity at least makes it a known quantity to shoot.

Thanks David, I spoke to Claire yesterday. I'm involved in the organisation of 750MC race meetings so I suggested that I would work it through with our timekeepers and then feed back on it's success or otherwise.

can i ask why the old pits are being used ?

Why not use the new pits, much better in every way. Using silverstone for a main showpiece event such as the silverstone 24 and using the old pits is abit of a downer for me.

i just dont get it!

also there is no stand right accross from the old rubbish pit lane, that was the only place to go last year during the night, so you had any idea what was going on, only place on the track that had lights!

Rich,

At the moment the infrastructure is not in place to cope with an event like the 24hrs in the new pits. For example if we were to go there there would be no access to the paddock for spectators as there is no way to get there. We are planning to run a trial event early next year in the new pits to see how it works before we make a decision on 2012 24hrs.

We are only allowed access to certain grandstands at night due to Silverstone H&S as only certain grandstands are lit.

Currently we are looking at 75 to 80 entries. Most are fully paid up with paperwork completed, some have put money down but no paperwork and others have done paperwork but not all of the money so we are still accepting entries up until we get 80 fully paid up and with matching entry forms.

Can I confirm which circuit it's on this year. I thought last year that James said we'd race one more time on the Bridge circuit (2011) before moving to Arena for 2012 onwards. However, I now gather that the Bridge part is unavailable with no intention to open it up again.

TBH, I'd prefer Arena, as although Bridge was an epic corner, I hated the fiddly left hander that followed it with the small uphill braking area and blind-turn in (I say blind, it might just have been dark!)

Another thing to consider for all attending - will the RWC2011 games be shown on the big screens??

Two amazing sporting events 24 hr racing + Rugby.

clearly lots of liquid will be required.

Jez, the old Bridge GP circuit is no longer in use, the new barriers go across the old circuit. What used to be called the Arena circuit is now the only GP circuit. We will be on the GP circuit.

Welsh, we hadn't considered the RWC, we will have to enquire about sourcing the appropriate license to see if we can show the games.

Heads up for the RWC2011 games scheduloed for that weekend:-

30/09
8.30am South Africa v Samoa

1/10
3am Australia v Russia
6am France v Tonga
8.30am England v Scotland

2/10
1am Argentina v Georgia
3.30am New Zeland
6am Wales v Fiji
8.30am Ireland v Italy

Clearly the all night 24 hr race will enable all the games on the 2/10 to be viewed by spectators if they wish to watch

Also England v Scotland will be a huge game - make sure the bar is open.

Can you turn up at any time during the 24hrs to spectate for this by the way or do they stop letting you into the circuit during the night?

There was btopen zone wireless available, at least there was for the last 3 years. I've used it from the pit wall. just subscribe for the week / weekend
