Red Bull Horner Hamilton etc article

"In a shorter career he has already won more races than Lewis, had more pole positions and won the same amount of championships," said Horner.
"We are absolutely delighted to have Sebastian. There is no driver in the paddock I would rather have on a long-term contract than Sebastian Vettel."

Hmmm, interestingly the Telegraph seems to have changed the wording from the link/article as the second sentance in my post above, which I copied from the link when first posted, is now missing..... - I wonder if that's significant.... "We are absolutely delighted to have Sebastian. There is no driver in the paddock I would rather have on a long-term contract than Sebastian Vettel."

Really admire Redbull's approach to F1 and Vettel:Hamilton is what we all want to see in 2012/13 even if I wouldn't do it if it were my team.

Consider this...
What if Vettel is a BETTER driver now than Hamilton irrespective of the car ... ?
I for one think that is a distinct possibility. Maybe there is at least one other :~

Says it all really."We are absolutely delighted to have Sebastian. There is no driver in the paddock I would rather have on a long-term contract than Sebastian Vettel."

No doubt Vettel is super quick - when he's got a clear track in front of him.
I'm not so sure he's such a great racing driver though. Button's probably right up there in those stakes - lots of passes, not too many shunts.
Hamilton's also not bad at the wheel to wheel stuff but seems to get engaged in much more physical contact.

we have yet to see Vettel fight tooth and nail for a win (or any other place to be honest), bit simplistic, but look how he cracked and fell off in Canada once Button started to apply some pressure ( and yes, I am well aware that Buttons tyres were much better at that point, however, Vettel fell off, not defending a move from Button, he just fell off).I'm not so sure he's such a great racing driver though. as for Lewis, yes he has hit more people, but when your in the middle of the pack, that's somewhat more likely to happen then if your out front.

Button has always been underestimated. Hamilton equally often over-hyped because of his "racer" status.
Altogether now...

Were they? Vettels tyres were newer, he was working them far less. The same fuel level on board. How are we determining that Buttons tyres were much better? MGJohn said:

the point still stands though, we have yet to see him do a 'drive from the back' style performance like Webber and Button have both done this year.
as with all racing, a lot of it is subject to the cards you are dealt, if you have the best car on the grid (by some way) then your not really going to have to 'fight' for the wins in the same way as the guy with the 'lesser' car...

That conveniently ignors Vettel's comprehensive containment of so called "racers" Hamilton and Alonso respectively in two previous races prior to Canada this season. Had "The rules" not severely affected the possible different outcome at Monaco, it could well have been a completely different story there.

at monaco you can keep anyone behind, as we have seen on many occaisions. for example bernoldi in an arrows kept DC in a mclaren behind him for 40 laps.
in barcelona vettel's car was slower than hamiltons over a lap, yes, but he had a massive advantage in exit speed onto the straight before the only real overtaking place. essentially he was slower everywhere except where it counted for overtaking, because of his car.
so we haven't seen vettel's defensive skills put to the test at all.
And Canada was a tiny slip: if it had been Lewis behind, RB/Vettel would have turned up the wick earlier but probably felt he didn't need to with Button - and in the context of the race itself, Vettel still made less errors than any of the other drivers including Button who had a few incidents during the race.

Even if he had not gone off Button would have had him in the DRS zone on the final straight. Vettel was never going to win that race.Streetrod said:

I don't know - if Vettel had picked up his pace a few laps sooner I think he would have. I think it was a small tactical mistake by RB but then they're right to play it conservative this season in my view - a few second places, no big deal.
