Silverstone - we have a problem

t for the next few years until the next phase of the building programme is complete. There are plans for a new grandstand and Hotel complex to be built on the other side of the pits. Lets not all be mardy about the new place already. 
Yes I wouldn't want to be on the pit straight opposite trying to see into the pits from ground level, at one end there's about 6ft drop in height, enough for what I almost thought was a door under the thin end of village green, the other a large expanse of grass, very nice. Did anyone notice how narrow the lane itself was? Strange as I thought that used to be one of Bernie's gripes. Expect some unsafe release and someone going into the wall as a consequence if not careful tomorrow. Best place for a fan to see into the pitlane, as opposed to a guest (and save for a tv screen) would be the grandstand outside of turn 1, you could look down the pitlane.
As to the wing, yes airport departure building is probably bang on, the roof looks a mess, I can't see anything that reminds me of an aeroplane wing about it, apart from Departures.

Silverstone behind the pits and the pits and the 70's & 80's had it.
Silverstone used to have an almost unexplainable majesty.
Back in the early 90's my family became involved in a small part time way in the TVR Tuscan series. During this time we took part in many test days and we tested at Goodwood, Castle Coombe, Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Thruxton (when we could), Mallory and Donnington which were all great for different reasons. We had visited all these tracks before as a spectator for various different series and attended the GP most years from 1978 through to 2000.
Eventually we tested at Silverstone and after testing at the other tracks before we were not expecting Silverstone to be any different but it was. We arrived at Silverstone at 8:00 am on a wet misty September morning and it had the strangest effect on us. I suppose because it was where the GP is held it gave us a strange eery feeling a lump in the stomach the same feeling as when you were 8 and its the first day back at school after the Summer holiday or like being summoned to the head masters office.
None of us said anything at the time but later after we had all settled in and we had run in the first session we all went up the cafeteria at about 10:30 and one of us said did we get a weird feeling this morning that made you feel very small and we all agreed that we had felt it. Only Silverstone had managed to do this to us.
We never tested at SPA or took part at Le mans but I guess that would have a similar effect for the first time.
Oh yes Silverstone has a soul.

Excitedly sat in the grandstand opposite the Mclaren/Red Bull pits during quali - didn't have seats for the race there - we were plonked at Woodcote. So very glad we hadn't. Was unbelievably gutted, could just about make out the tops of peoples heads. No screen in near view either so we had no view of the pits and no idea what was going on.Jenson made the trip up to the wall to remind us they were down there at one point which was err something. Woodlands Campsite was great, but our 1st F1 ever left a wee bit of a sour taste sadly
