F1 is already boring enough, but who else thinks DRS makes it too easy to pass and bring the tactical side of racing out of the race.

When I have raced it's up to you to look for a place and a good time pass.

As boring as a thread with no title?

Do we really need this argument again, if its boring you don't watch it.

Yes, but not for the reasons you think. It has nothing to do with the racing it just means that we have to put up with countless dull posts on a dull topic by dull people who either don't know or don't care that it has already been discussed ad infinitim over the last three months.

Obviously I am not sad or dull enough to spend my boring life on the forum so I miss certain threads unlike you.

Well with a little more hard work you too can soon be living the dream.

Seriously though it feels like it's come up in one form or another in just about every general F1 thread since the season started so I just don't see the benefit in having it again.

This hadn't gone well for the OP, maybe they should start a thread based on KERS or the new pirelli tyres. These topics don't appear to have covered

The only problem i have with DRS and KERS is the zones and the limit, I say let them use them whenever they want for as long as they want.

Yes. It makes the 'racing' fake.

It doesn't stop overtakes in other parts of the circuit though, does it. We saw some exciting passes, and attempts, by the usual suspects today outside of the DRS zones.

We don't need more gadgets. What we want is more drivers like Massa, Hamilton, Koby, well perhaps one's enough of him, Alonso and Webber. Oh, hold on, a conditional more for Mark as he's on a lead.

I personally thought it was spot on today, just enough to keep a faster car closing up on the tail of the car in front instead of getting stagnated in the dirty air, but not so much as to be a 'hit the button to overtake' gimmick.

Whoever set that zone, perfect job, do it more often.

I wouldn't say it makes F1 boring.More overtaking can only be a good thing but it is a bit of an odd rule in my opinion. Its almost like saying all you have to do now is can get within a second of the car in front and the pass is a virtual guarantee. One of Murray Walkers most common quotes was "catching is one thing, passing is quite another" and with DRS that kind of goes out the window.

The DRS zones are always on the straights so its not like its solving the problem of cars losing downforce in the corners due to 'dirty air' it is just basically adding to the slipstream effect, but as we have seen in most cases the car in front just becomes a sitting duck which i think is a bit unfair.

It worked well at Silverstone; not many overtakes in the DRS zone, but it let the cars stay closer to the car in front which made it possible to overtake elsewhere. A pretty good use for it really.

What would have been nice would have been a return to ground effect, as the air out of the back of the cars would have been much smoother.

Hmmm, not sure.

I think the DRS should be changed. Instead of 1 or 2 particular areas on track that it can be used, it should be set up the same way as KERS- a time limit of use per lap and can be used anywhere on the lap.

I think that would help with overtaking in more areas of the track more of the time.

Just a point of curiosity, did Button use DRS to do his overtaking yesterday, around the outside of some corner or such. I can't remember where it was for the life of me.

No he didn't. And it was Massa he passed.

And then Massa passed Hamilton on the final lap, again not using DRS (though he then got skewered by Lewis wink)

Though it's probably fair to say the DRS zone half a lap before the overtakes helped them stay a little closer than they might otherwise have been.

I can only think of Turkey and Canada where DRS made it too easy to pass.
